In this Hands-On Holds session, you’ll start with a hand-thrown tumbler by Airr Made Ceramics and sculpt your own climbing holds to attach to it—creating a functional piece inspired by your love for the sport.
Our expert instructors will guide you through:
  • Pinching and Slab Techniques – Learn how to craft climbing-inspired holds from clay
  • Attachment Methods – Secure your holds to the mug using handbuilding techniques
  • Personalisation – Paint and customise your piece to reflect your climbing style
  • Your finished piece will be ready to pick up 6 weeks from the workshop date.
Whether you're a seasoned climber or new to the sport, this workshop is a fun way to bring your passion to life—one hold at a time. Come get creative, connect with fellow climbers and craft a mug that’s as unique as your grip!
Please note:
  • ONE fired & glazed piece is available with the ticket price, additional pieces are available for $10 and postage options are available (cost calculated depending on location and number of pieces).
  • Your piece/s MUST be picked up within 4 months weeks of the workshop date, otherwise, it will be available for purchase by donation.
  • Please arrive at the reserved time. Arriving more than 15 minutes late will automatically cancel your reservation, and the deposit will not be refunded. • 5/5 from Michele Posthumus Meyjes, attended Oct 2024: This class was a great way to meet up with some friends and spend some time not actually climbing the walls, but creating them from clay! The instructor was fun and engaging, the duration of the class was perfect, and the activity was fun and therapeutic. We were provided with the mugs and the clay to create our own bespoke climbing holds, and given plenty of instruction and examples to get creative. We were given the tools and methods to create various holds and shapes and taught how to secure them to the mug. Finally we were provided with the material to paint our holds (and the mug, if we chose) and informed of the process to finalise the mugs and make them food and dishwasher ready.
  • 5/5 from Deanna Thorne, attended Oct 2024: absolutely loved this class!! we are regular climbers at nomad so were so excited about the idea of making our own bouldering mug. Shane made the experience so fun, and took care to make sure everyone’s holds were on securely so that we’d end up with the mug of our dreams. 100000x recommend booking a class at market studio!
