Lantern Making Workshop

Celebrate the magic of the Winter Solstice with a lantern making workshop

3 hours Class size 1 to 150 guests       $5

Join us for a hands-on lantern-making workshop in Sydney! Learn how to craft your very own paper and bamboo lantern, then light it at sunset as we come together for a magical lantern parade at Coogee Beach on the evening of the Winter Solstice.
Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It symbolises the rebirth of the sun and the gradual return of light and warmth, bringing with it the promise of spring. Many people take this time to reflect on the past year, express gratitude, and set intentions for the future. It's a beautiful opportunity for introspection and renewal amidst the stillness of winter.
No experience is needed, our team will provide all materials and step-by-step guidance. Just bring your willingness to learn!
The project will culminate in a breathtaking lantern parade at Coogee Beach Rainbow on the 21st of June Solstice Night - a vibrant community celebration where you can proudly display your creations and share in the light together.

Coogee Lanterns
Coogee Lanterns

Coogee Lanterns was founded in 2024, inspired by the amazing Lantern Parade at the Woodford Folk Festival. Moved by the beauty, creativity, and strong sense of community we experienced there, we set out to create something similar right here in Coogee.
We are a group of community-based arts enthusiasts who share a love for handmade crafts and meaningful connections. Our vision is to bring people together through art and light, celebrating the Winter Solstice as a time to reflect, connect, and brighten the darkest night of the year.
Our first event in 2024 was a wonderful success, bringing locals of all ages together for an evening of glowing lanterns, music, and shared joy. It showed us how powerful simple, heartfelt creativity can be in uniting a community.
As we look ahead, our aim is to grow Coogee Lanterns into a cherished annual tradition - celebrating winter, creativity, and community spirit with even more light, warmth, and participation each year.
