Kelsey is the founder of Sakucha, a Chado (The Japanese Art of Tea) Practitioner (Urasenke), registered Yoga and Meditation Teacher (Yoga Australia and Meditation Association of Australia) and Chartered Accountant (CAANZ), who is passionate about personal and planetary wellbeing.

Beginning with language and culture studies, Kelsey has been making connections with Japan for almost two decades. In 2019, she stepped out of the corporate scene in her native Australia and moved to Kyoto. Trading the West(ern Australia) for the East, she sought to refresh body and mind.

Refreshment was found in a bowl of matcha green tea. A number of serendipities led her to Chado: a new friend, a library book, an accidental visit to a tea shop and meeting a sensei (teacher). She commenced study and tea became a way of life.

Through the practice of tea and mindfulness and with a desire to help others thrive, Sakucha bloomed.

The name "Sakucha" comes from 2 Japanese words: saku (to bloom) and cha (tea). Our name reflects our mission: to help you flourish with a mindful tea practice.

Kelsey was a delight to do a class with on the weekend.
A beautiful kit arrived setting the scene for a space in time to appeal to all the senses and create a lovely scene for a ritual and listening to a lovely story about life, tradition and ritual in Japan. The matcha is top quality and can be enjoyed in many ways. With plant based milk and cinnamon was my favourite. Thank you Kelsey. I created a little tray and ritual after the class with things I had at home to compliment the lovely pieces in the kit.

Absolutely loved this class and despite being over zoom I still learnt a lot. The price is higher but the materials are good quality and well worth it. Making matcha makes a lovely daily ritual and I’ve since enjoyed trying different powders and their flavours.

The Sakucha matcha making workshop was incredible. I can’t recommend it enough. Learning about the history of matcha ceremonies, and how to make matcha traditionally from Kelsey - whose knowledge and passion for the subject is abundant - was a great experience. It has added an additional dimension to my morning routine, which I am very grateful for. Kelsey has a wonderful, warm and calming presence, and the Sakucha matcha is delicious! I would highly recommend this class to anyone.

A very relaxing and informative session to learn about how to make a creamy matcha with the traditional tools. Also, how to store tea properly.
