In this interactive and laid-back workshop, we will equip you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to craft your very own, bespoke perfumes.

Under the expert guidance of our teachers, you will be introduced to the fundamental principles of perfume-making, immersing your senses in a harmonious blend of creativity and craftsmanship as you compose two unique fragrances - one bottle of Eau De Toilette (EDT) and one bottle of Eau De Parfum (EDP).

Delve into the fascinating world of perfumery and indulge your olfactory senses as you explore a diverse range of aromatic essences, from delicate florals to exotic spices, and from earthy woods to zesty citruses.

With an array of premium ingredients at your disposal, you will experiment, mix, and match notes to design your very own signature fragrances.

For private events, our venue can accommodate 20 guests.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your class. The session will be about two hours to two hours and fifteen minutes long, depending on how much time you want to spend perfecting your perfume.

My name is Joseph, and I started Kimberley Chocolates to produce high-quality chocolates in Sydney. I held a BSc in Food Science and wanted to make great chocolate more accessible to our community, including by combining it with flavours like chilli, lemon myrtle, and quandong (Australia's 'native peach'). Kimberley Chocolates won the gold award at the Royal Easter Show Chocolate Competition, and I started to appear in the media more often. People started contacting me to learn more about chocolates, and I realised that there is a great need for chocolate education, and that's where our chocolate workshops started!

But my passions and skills don't just stop at chocolate, I've also spent my fair share of time in perfumeries. I'm qualified in Organic Chemistry and Food Science from the University of NSW and worked for many years with the extraction of oils used for fragrance and food flavouring as well as at Unilever in the laboratory producing and testing perfume. Six years ago, I studied perfumery and with his my newly-refined sense of smell and skills in producing olfactory compositions, I began creating my own perfume. This led to sharing my knowledge and skills with others and three years ago I began running fun, hands-on perfume making classes in Lilyfield. As it is difficult to run classes during COVID-19 the Craft Perfume Box was created to bring the perfume-making experience to your home.

My teaching style is playful and fun, and very hands-on - the more sampling and laughing that happens, the better!

We really enjoyed our perfume, making class! My little sister loved going and getting personal feedback from Joseph and his team who are really friendly. It would’ve been great to be on able to step out for some fresh air amongst all the smells maybe halfway. It also would’ve been great to get a little bit more of a lesson on how to mix sents, rather than just having a sheet of sents we could copy.

I had Make Your Own Fragrance class with Kimberly Chocolates in Lilyfield.
He and two other assistant teachers were so welcoming, helpful and approachable. The location is easy to access, literally one minute away from the closest bus stop. The venue was so clean with lots of space to walk around the table with various fragrance bottles on. For beginners like me who is so passionate about scents, the ingredients provided there were just right number to explore. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to leave the venue even after the class! The best part was we were given a wonderful opportunity to experiment freely without thinking too much (I did think too much however!). It is all about pursuing olfactory pleasures whether you have formal (even a little) knowledge of perfumery or not at all. Of course some basic guidelines were given, however, what I love most was the fact that all the attendants were welcomed to try whatever fragrance composition we believed would work! Don’t worry Kimberly would give you some help at the end to balance it out. ;-)
In this class I learnt that I need to trust my own sense rather than thinking too much and just give it a shot!
I left the venue with so much fulfilment about the class as well as myself and also two beautiful original fragrances! Definitely good value and you should try his class. I already would like to go back again!

I loved the freedom we had to play with the different oils - I thought it would be quite a controlled process, but instead, they let us experiment with the scents and be creative! We were given some guides as to what oils pair together well, and our teachers also provided one-on-one help and advice in relation to our individual perfumes. Very relaxed vibes - I also adored the location at the house - it was so poetic and elegant. My partner and I are excited to use our own specialty perfumes! We came away with two each. In the summary of our introduction to this class, we set out to introduce perfume to the general public. In the class, we provided the opportunity for participants to make a bottle of perfume oil EDP and a bottle of alcohol-based fragrance EDT. We did not advertise as the first of many lessons to teach you all about perfume.

The class is great for beginners and it provides you with a lot of freedom to make 2 signature scents just for you. I enjoyed the little history behind perfume and the wide variety of fragrances available and you can tell the teachers are very knowledgeable.
There was a little mix up with class numbers but it shouldn't deter as everyone had ample time to experiment and gain feedback to perfect their scents.

Enjoyable experience. Joseph and his assistant were so knowledgeable and warm. Good location, super close to Summer Hill station (around 5 mins walking). There were many choices of fragrance to choose from. The class began with perfume history and introduction of top note, heart note and last note. Joseph gave us a paper of perfume recipes that we could use as examples and tips to make a good perfume then we could go freely to make our own. Joseph and his lovely assistant also gave us suggestions based on what we want our perfume to be like, which was super helpful. Highly recommended!

Having so many little bottles on 2 tables and quite a few participants made it difficult to see all the choices and try them. The make your own perfume class was great.
First up some really interesting information on the history of perfume then an explanation about Base notes, top notes and heart notes.
Then it’s time to create, So many possibilities and if you get a bit too carried away, Joseph is happy to help you get to the scent you’re after.
You leave with two cute 30ml bottles of perfume. Two different scents of your creation.
Everyone was lovely including the other attendees. Was a simply lovely afternoon. I highly recommend it.
I wondered if the scents are all vegan as I have many vegan friends who would love this.

Joseph, our teacher was friendly extremely helpful in guiding this Worksop given fifteen students descending him on simultaneously for help.
Very generous of him to have opened his own house as the workshop couldn't go ahead in the original place planned.
The Worksop had plenty of supplies and essential.oils for all of us.
While you are not going set a light in the world of perfumery, you certainly will make and take home one or two of your creations. To this end you have half dozen set formulations to start off from.
Excellent and certainly valuable introduction to the seductive world of perfume.
Highly recommend it.

Joseph is a great teacher, at the start of the class, he first explained the history of perfume, which my friend and I did not know a lot about. He also ensured that everyone was happy with their perfumes and suggested ways the scent could be changed or enhanced. The venue was changed due to a fire incident, however the new location was a beautiful house that felt very homely and comforting to make the perfume in. I liked how there was various essential oils and scents to choose from, everyone was able to make 2 perfumes each. This allowed me to experiment more with the first perfume whilst getting familiar with the different scents. Overall, the class is good value for money, I had a really fun time. It was a gift from my friend, I think this a wonderful gift idea that is a very unique experience.

Joseph and Yvonne were very friendly, they gave the group a good 'background' to perfume making and its history, and we got to spend 1.5 hours making our own scents! It was fun, and we now have some lovely gifts to take to relatives overseas and we can say that we actually made the perfumes ourselves which is nice :)

Yvonne and Joseph were great teachers.
Joseph is very knowledgeable with the origins of perfume. We learned a lot from his introduction.
I will say it was very overwhelming but Yvonne was floating around helping the students with deciphering which scent they need to add to get the their desired finished product.
Once we were happy with the scent we took it to Joseph. He would give you his opinion, test it on your skin to see if it works well and then sprays it as the final step.
I bought this for me and my sister as her birthday gift.
We had a lot of fun and can't wait to attend another session down the track.

We got to take home 2 lovely bottles of perfume.
Great class and I would highly recommend it.

Joseph is one of the best teachers i’ve had for perfume making. Absolute legend. Allowed me to make 3 30ml bottles of perfume today as well as the last class I participated in last year. Joseph knows what your fragrance needs to give it that extra kick. Attending this class always feels like i’m a kid in a candy store, I could honestly make fragrances all day if I was allowed to. We both enjoyed the class thoroughly. Joseph was a great instructor who really tried to get the most out of both our time.
Definitely worth the cost and we both look forward to doing a similar class in the future.

Joseph was very insightful and very hands on during the class. I walked away feeling very pleased with the experience. The venue is very clean, although it is on a busy road so parking might be a bit tricky. I was lucky to get there a bit early and found parking close by. I definitely would do this class again and I am super impressed with the fragrances I made. Perfect gift for the women in your life!

Great fun and would definitely recommend! Nice brief history lesson followed by trialling all sorts of smells. The one tiny improvement suggestion is to have common scent favourites such as cinnamon, but this hardly detracts from the quality of the class and teacher.

I loved the perfume making class. Our teacher Joseph was very knowledgeable and helpful and encouraged us to experiment with all the scents. I made my own perfume and am so pleased with how it turned out. Since wearing my own personalized scent, I have had many compliments on its fragrance, which lasts for hours.
Making perfume is a complex art but it was so enjoyable smelling the different aromas and trying to mix them into our own personalized scent. It was a lovely way to spend 2 hours and I would certainly do this class again.

No questions is ever too hard for Joseph to answer, and there is no stuffed up that he can't fixed either (provided that we follow his instructions to begin with). The only suggestion is perhaps, to have a smaller class size or a support person, as Joseph tried so hard to give his attention to everyone of us, but overall, it was a great day and we enjoyed it so much!

All the ingredients they had to mix with were very nice and you could tell they were of a very high quality.
I was the only male in the class but never felt out of place, I urge more men to come and have a go at making yourself a personal scent.
I actually wouldn't mind doing it again, in fact once my bottle runs out I may very well be back to try and duplicate my original flavour.

Loved the class. Wish there were more location options maybe say Parramatta?

Good amounts of materials maybe could've had some more niche ingredients but overall great variety.

Very good value for money and the instructor was very lovely and extremely knowledgeable.

Labelling on ingredients could have been better, more scientific descriptions as options for more learning.

Although late the class was set out to simplify the creation process in stages the paper given out helped us map out the quantities of each scent with ease. I thoroughly enjoyed the turkish delight ans was amazed we got to take home 2 bottles and create different scents.

I got this workshop as a birthday present and I was not let down! Joseph was informative, bubbly and took the class to a new level - a proper teacher makes all the difference and he certainly made the drive from Canberra worth it. The venue was clean, large and workable for what we were doing. The treat of Turkish Delight upon arrival was also appreciated!

Although I didn't purchase this course for myself I still think it was worth the money and would buy it again and would buy it for someone else. I went with another family member but we met some lovely people so I think it is also nice to go solo and meet new people in a friendly environment.

I learnt a lot about the history of fragrance, and what scents go well together and what may be too potent. Not only did I leave knowledgeable but I left with two custom bottles and I now get complimented daily on my creations.

A charming experience which I highly recommend. Thanks Joseph you were fabulous!

While Joseph was perfectly nice I was hugely disappointed with this workshop and I thought it was very expensive for what it was. I paid $100 for this class because I genuinely wanted to learn something about how to make perfume not to just throw a bunch of scents together in a bottle and hope for the best.
The class was poorly conceived - we weren't educated about how scents fall into different categories e.g. floral vs woody vs oriental, nor were we given any guidance on which scents worked well together, nor were we advised on ratios or volumes. The only scent mentioned was Jasmin and that because it was very strong to only add one drop at a time. Well what about the others?
Most of us needed to get our perfumes 'fixed' which was not surprising because we were adding in scents based on how each one smelled, not on how it would work with another scent. We queued for Joseph's help and invariably we were told to add one of his pre-mixed perfumes. Or he would say: "Do you know what you put in there? You need to repeat it." The answer is no because a) we weren't told to keep a track of what we were doing, b) weren't advised to bring a notepad and pen so that we could keep track and c) essentially told at the start of the class that ratios etc didn't matter.
The class also lacked structure and organisation. There were 13 or 14 students - too many for us to all comfortably have access to the table and scents. I'd recommend putting the base notes, heart notes and top notes on different tables so that they don't get mixed up and it would allow for better movement of people.

Joseph was a great teacher. The group was very happy with this workshop. It was fun and great to take home 2 bottles of fragrance that we personally blended ourselves. Expect a lot of fun more than learning about making perfume. Joseph does give a background to perfume history and touches on the top, heart and base notes but its only a 2 hour class and most of that time appropriately goes into the blending process. Joseph will help with the end product if it needs a little more of this or that. Fun and interesting!

Joseph was a very passionate teacher who had a lot of knowledge on perfumes. This activity was super enjoyable and very different I would definitely recommend this class for people who are wanting something a bit unique. You get to go home with two perfumes of your own creation. It was so cool to see how different everyone's creations was. I cant wait to wear my new perfumes out.

The studio was absolutely wonderful - it was great to get an insight into how perfume is made and dabble around and create something for ourselves - our own signature scent!

Joseph was charming but I felt I didn’t really learn anything new and I didn’t like the fact that most of the “oils” used were synthetic. I was not sure why there were premade fragrances eg Arpege to,which we added more oils.
The venue was nice with easy parking in the surrounding streets.

Had actually booked this class in as party of a hens party/event and its with my pleasure to say all the girls had thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Joseph's class was incredible and super informative and gave us a brief history of how fragrance came about and much more. Loved how we were able to create a couple of fragrances either for ourselves or for our party and found this was a great take home gift for the girls who attended the event! Joseph was also super accomodating with all the plans prior which made the booking and setting up process with such ease.
