Course Overview From the Artist
In these lessons, I am going to teach you all of the individual techniques that I have learned from over 40 years of painting and teaching in watercolour. I love painting loosely and with mystery. I tend to take for granted how I paint in watercolour. So one day, I sat down and really took note of all the techniques that I use whenever I paint with watercolours. These quick tips are exactly what I use in my own paintings.

Projects
There are projects for you to work on within the lessons listed above:
  • Project 1 - Glazes - The Tissue Paper Effect - (Part 3): A small abstract painting on glazing and mark making.
  • Project 2 - Painting into a Wet Shape (Part 4): A fun painting of a cat, dropping in lots of colours to create its shape - watch how the cat paints itself!!
  • Project 3 - A painting and pen drawing of pink magnolia branches.
  • Project 4 - Loosen up your Edges to Create Mystery. A painting of some Italian shutters with a flower box below it.
  • Project 5 - Lifting out Colour to Create Shapes. Pulling out shapes on a dark background to create trees and branches.
  • Project 6 - Mixing Directly onto Paper to create Tulips. A painting of two coloured tulips using analogous colours.
  • Project 7 - Creating butterfly wings on a patterned surface (using the clingfilm technique), painting around the negative shape and pulling out with water to create the wings.
  • Project 8 - Creating a kookaburra out of mixed media, including pastels & inks.
  • Project 9 - Liquid amber leaves on the forest floor (instruction sheets provided), is where you will see how I create a real look of lost and found leaves. This is achieved by painting into the positive shape (the leaf) and around the negative shape (which is the outside of the leaf). You will learn to pull out these edges away from the leaf shape so it all blends in perfectly. The leaf shape is actually the background that I had painted originally.
