Meet Wild Blooms & Co

Meet Wild Blooms & Co

By Tiffany Fung

Jessica Nelson never considered herself the creative type, until life forced her to slow down. During the quiet days of Covid lockdowns she discovered the beauty of arranging dried flowers, quickly transforming her home with vibrant floral creations. In 2022, after quitting her full-time to care for family who were unwell, it was textured art she stumbled upon.

Both these hobbies were a way for Jessica to switch off, work through her emotions and discover the joy of making something truly special. That’s when she decided to start her own small business, Wild Blooms & Co, selling handmade creations at local Canberra markets and inviting students to discover creativity in a safe space at her workshops.

Jessica’s textured art workshops are more than just classes, they’re a chance to unwind, connect, and have fun crafting something that’s uniquely yours, something we all need from time to time. From finding your groove with the palette knife to seeing your vision come to life on canvas, Jessica is there every step of the way to ensure you walk away with something to be proud of.

Ready to switch off and get creative? Read on to find out more about Jessica’s story and how you can have fun with textured art too!

I’m on a mission to…

Textured art

“Help people slow down amongst the hustle of life, connect with their creative side and foster their wellbeing.”

The best thing about textured art is…

Woman painting textured art on canvas

“All of the little life lessons hidden within the process like letting go, embracing imperfection, it is what it is, being present and so much more! Plus, any mistake is just a happy accident that can turn into beautiful pieces of art.”

My favourite part of the workshop is…

Women smiling and holding up their textured canvases

“Seeing how everyone’s pieces turn out different! No two canvases are ever the same.”

Textured art is for everyone…

“Of all ages, abilities and most importantly even the self-proclaimed ‘non-creatives!’”

Helping others tap into their creativity makes me…

“Feel inspired to continue to do the same.”

I love supporting local because…

“I am very grateful for the team at The Little Burley Market and the Haig Park Village Market who allowed me to start with my local market, which kickstarted Wild Blooms into what it is today in Canberra and the surrounding region.

“A shoutout to Hannah from Studio Mae (one of the savviest small business women I know!), who has also been supportive from the beginning and who I have grown a beautiful working relationship with in hiring and using her gorgeous space.

“Another small local business that works so hard–the girls at Sucre Sale Canberra—they provide the tastiest sweet grazing boxes in Canberra and have been collaborating with me since the very beginning!

“I would also like to thank the managers and staff at Burrito Bar Tuggeranong and Dear Prudence Bar who continue to support Wild Blooms as venues to host our workshops.”
