Looking for unique things to do in Sydney? Join this hands-on course with The Bower and gain the knowledge and skills to construct a hive for native bees using reclaimed and repurposed materials.

Bees have an important role to play in maintaining the biodiversity of our ecosystem. More than 70 per cent of the food humans eat each day depends on the pollination process of bees.

Course outline:

  • Have knowledge of general safety practices in a workshop setting
  • Understand the benefits of using second-hand timber and the different types available
  • Understand how the skills you learn in this workshop can be applied to other projects
  • Have some basic knowledge of different bee habitats
  • Understand how to correctly mark out and work to a plan
  • Have guided, hands-on experience using a drill, driver, hammer and other hand tools.

This course will take place over two three-hour sessions at the end of which you'll take home a small beehive suitable for native bee species.

Accessibility:
The Bower’s instructors are experienced in facilitating courses for individuals living with a disability. Please let us know about any special requirements prior to enrolment so that our staff can prepare in advance.


Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly. This course is suitable for beginners (18 years and over) with no prior woodwork experience. Corporate bookings accepted.
 
What you'll get
A completed beehive to take home and knowledge on woodworking and native bees!
 
What to bring
Please tie any long hair back and wear appropriate, closed-toe shoes.

Please bring along the following PPE:
  • Facemask
  • Safety goggles/glasses
  • Earmuffs or earplugs
