I don’t think this can be marketed as a class because there was actually no teaching bar the 5-10 minutes the organiser took to run through housekeeping including not to waste their paint. The rest of the 2 hours were left to the participants to paint their own pieces. Colour palette was also rather limited with bottles not labelled correctly. If this continues to be marketed as a class and charge fees then there should be more teaching and step by step guidance as the participants go along. Example to make sure everyone is on track in preparing the ceramic by water coating, tips on base colouring including what shades to use and avoid; design tips, colouring tips especially if shading is intended or dark vibrant colours are intended and multiple coats may be required etc. The person running the course was also rather abrupt such as not asking politely for the participants to move when arranging seats and not being organised and clear enough at the start to arrange people into seats if there were specific requirements. There’s also no facility or space to leave jackets and bags while painting and no clear instruction to not bring any of these given there is no space to store them.

The class was done well, engaging and personable, friendly and professional master in kintsugi and his wife assisting the session. Good beginners class introducing Kingsugi history, its concept and how its relevance has taken hold in recent years across cultures given the principle of Kintsugi encompasses acceptance of scars and failures; trials and tribulations; and coming out of it all a better and more experienced; albeit restored and renewed version of oneself. It’s a great philosophy and serves well in the challenging pressures of current times. There are further advanced classes to master and understand the art in more detail if interested. Certainly a recommendable workshop and will look out for other similar workshops or the more advanced workshops in future.
