What you'll do
In this hands-on school holiday workshop, older kids and teens will learn how to transform a plain white t-shirt into a unique piece of wearable fashion. Using simple design techniques, participants will experiment with cutting, reshaping, and dyeing to create a one-of-a-kind tee they’ll actually want to wear.We’ll explore how fashion designers rework basic garments to create new silhouettes. Students will learn how to safely crop and reshape a t-shirt, create side ties and ladder backs, and experiment with dip dye or spray dye to add colour and personality to their design.Throughout the day, Rebecca will guide participants step-by-step while encouraging them to experiment with their own ideas. A range of sample styles will be available for inspiration—from cropped box tees and tie-sides to relaxed tank styles and soft colour-dyed finishes.By the end of the workshop, each student will leave wearing (or carrying!) their own redesigned t-shirt and a new understanding of how fashion can be created through simple transformations.Why They Will Love It: This workshop is perfect for kids who enjoy creativity, fashion, and experimenting with their personal style. With step-by-step guidance and a range of sample styles to work from, students will be supported to create a t-shirt that feels considered, wearable, and uniquely their own.What they'll learn:

Knowledge required
Designed for kids aged 12–15 (Years 7–10), this workshop is perfect for older kids and teens who are ready for a slightly more independent, design-led project.Confident Year 6 students who are comfortable working independently are also welcome to join, particularly those who feel ready for a more design-led workshop.No prior experience needed.Please note this class is not suitable for children under 11 years old or below 6th grade at school.
What to bring
- A plain white or light-coloured t-shirt (oversized styles work well).
- A packed lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.
- Please avoid foods containing nuts or other common allergens (as a courtesy to other participants).
- We recommend wearing shorts or a skirt and a crop top or singlet so students can comfortably try on their redesigned t-shirt as they work.
- Kids should wear clothes they don't mind getting messy.
