The Workers' Educational Association of South Australia Incorporated, founded in 1913, is Australia's largest non-government adult community education organisation.

The WEA provides learning opportunities for anyone aged 15 years or older (in most courses - there are some age restrictions on individual courses) and there are generally no pre-requisites for courses and no assessment or exams.

We operate as an innovative, flexible provider of moderately priced adult education services. We're an independent, non-government association almost completely funded by the student fees that we receive.

In addition to our skills and enrichment courses including computer training, we offer overseas tours, services to assist people with a disability enter mainstream courses and WEA Clubs membership that enables students to continue their interests.

The WEA conducts courses at over 30 locations in metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia. A large part of our program is conducted at the centrally located WEA Centre in Angas Street, Adelaide.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class on sour dough bread making. Learnt the principals of how it works and was pleasantly surprised that thanks to Steve’s simple technique it now seems really reproducible at home.

Class was okay, but had too many people in so felt rushed. Only 'hands-on' part was folding the dumplings.

Tania d'Antonio Feb 2024

The instructor was great and time the class well, there was a variety of options and to learn how to fold the dumplings and condiment to eat them once cooked.

What a great way to spend a Saturday!
Great teacher; went home with my belly full and a new skill set :-)).

STeve's sourdough bread making course was marvellous. He is funny, warm, knowledgeable, approachable, supportive, and encouraging. The proof of his expertise was the quality of loaf we baked the next morning. I will definitely attend his advanced courses once I have the basics under my belt. I'd recommend his class to anyone (and as an ex MBA lecturer at Adelaide University Graduate School, I don't praise facilitators easily!)

Went as a gift. Teacher was so knowledgable on the best way to make dough. It was great having one on one teaching at many points. Couldn't have been better. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to master making a pizza!

A fantastic 3 hours of learning with Paulo and his team. Some excellent theory followed by a hands-on learning experience. And to top it off you get to eat the fruits of your labour! Would recommend to anyone starting out on their Pizza journey.

My bread turned out amazing! Thank you so much.

- The teacher was good, explaining everything well, engaging students as much as was possible. - Necessary facilities and equipment were available.
- all baking ingredients were supplied for each student and ready to use.
- A display monitor would be helpful to see and show clearly what the teacher was doing, especially for people in the back of the room.
- 4 hours is, in my opinion, not enough to cover the material of the course. It was a bit rushed and there was no break.
-To get value for the cost, I believe this course needs 5 hours.

Highly recommend this class. It was fun and the teacher is very easy to follow. We had a great time moulding and shaping our Japanese sweets and look forward to other classes. We also got recipes from the class so that we could make them ourselves if we wanted too.

The class was well-paced and well structured. Yoshimi was a skilled demonstrator and encouraged participants with lots of patience and positivity as we tried our hands at the techniques. A really fun class, with great hands on learning and helpful recipes and tips to take home.

The teacher was so considerate and warm to my daughter. She got a lot out of engaging in this activity as part of her social NDIS funding in terms of learning, self management, executive function and socialising. Well worth doing!

Steve was an excellent teacher, managed the class particularly well and was truly great at teaching sourdough making.
With his generosity and enthusiasm the class was thoroughly enjoyable plus I learned a new skill.
Thanks Steve.

Steve was a great teacher and gave us lots of tips on how to make different types of bread. There were baking tools we could buy if we didn't have them, which was useful and how to use them. The instructions were clear and we all received a comprehensive set of class notes.
The bonus was we got a sourdough starter to take home that we can use, and how to feed it so it is ready for use when you want to make bread. It was a fun night and we got to sample a couple of examples of bread, including a fruit loaf that were made during the class. I highly recommend anyone wanting to start on a bread making journey. I look forward to doing Steve's next class in December.

This class was very cute, worth the money, and the teacher was great at demonstrating and keeping the class interesting with little facts about what we were doing and how it relates back to her life and Japanese culture, and where to buy the ingredients etc. The only reason I remove a star is because it was on a Monday night, which meant we were quite tired from work, but maybe that is normal for WEA? It was my first one, so not sure.

Heidi was funny, very knowledgeable, down to earth and very helpful. I had ideas for other leather projects and she took the time to listen and give me some feedback and suggestions. We didn't have the time in the end to work on it but that's because there is so much to do! Didn't expect leatherwork to be so much work!
Saying that none of it was out of reach so just some patience and discipline + lots of creativity if you dare to try.

Really recommend this course!

This is a super fun class! Yoshimi is a fantastic, friendly teacher.
I made a lot of mess, a lot of delicious treats and had the best time. I'd attend this again just for the fun of it! I'd recommend especially if you like Japanese deserts like mochi, or enjoy crafting, or sensory activities like dough play. Good for beginner cooks, as a lot of time on crafting the sweets with the hard cooking preparation done by the teacher.

I really enjoyed this class, have made the sweets several times myself at home and they've always come out well. The teacher was amazing and provided recipe sheets and even shortcut ways to make it as well as the long (traditional) way if you prefer. It was great to be able to try different flavours and I learnt what to specific ingredients to buy to make it myself.
