If you haven't tried weaving yet, make it your new year's resolution in 2021!
Weaving is a wonderful meditative fibre art that is having a resurgence, big time. So come and find out what all the fuss is about in this fabulous workshop with POP Canberra weaver Brooke Parr.
In this three-hour workshop, Brooke will cover all the fundamental weaving techniques including twinning, tabby weave, the overshot technique, hemstitch, and how to tidy up your completed work. Using a loom and a variety of yarn and weaving tools, you'll leave having created a woven bookmark with feature embellishments.
This class is perfect if you're searching for unique things to do in Canberra or are eager to learn the meditative art of weaving.
Please note: The workshop may take three to three-and-a-half-hours, so please allow for a variable end time.

In 2016 Brooke moved to Canberra from a small country town for university. Without the resources to continue her regular hobbies (piano and baking), she had to move on to greener pastures. She started off with cross stitch, which slowly developed into embroidery. After that, she found herself delving into the world of fibre arts with macrame, but it wasn’t until her boyfriend gifted her a loom for Christmas in 2019 that she found weaving. In early 2020 Brooke found some weaving tutorial books, and she's been developing her skill ever since!
Brooke loves to incorporate twill patterns into all of her weavings and use bold and bright colours as the feature. Every day she is learning new techniques and ways to develop her own style, all thanks to the charming weaving community she has found.
BlackBear began in mid 2020, as Covid allowed her the time to create a stockpile of woven wall hangings that she unfortunately didn’t have room for in her own home. She never started weaving with the intention to sell them to other people, but she simply didn’t have the space or enough family members to gift them to! So she thought, why not test the waters? BlackBear is still in the early stages of its development, with big goals for 2021 (so keep an eye out!)
