Looking for creative things to do in Sydney? If you love design and are interested in textiles this fun course with Sydney Community College may be perfect for you!
This hands-on course is a great introduction to the world of digital printing and will allow you to develop skills in illustrating, graphic design, textile design and Adobe software programs.
Course outline:
- Gain an understanding of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as it relates to the production of a print.
- Understand different colour palettes, base-cloths and their applications for fabric design.
- Develop your own creative style by making choices about the types of patterns, images, drawings you use and repeat in your design.
- Produce your own unique and professional quality fashion fabric design ready for printing.
Over two sessions, you'll learn the basics of colour, drawing, composition and pattern. You'll create designs that can then be used in fabric printing and garment manufacturing. Throughout the course, you'll also receive personal feedback on your work from your teacher.
This course is great if you are looking to try out a new hobby or even use the skills you learn in a professional environment. Experience with Adobe software is helpful, but not essential.
Beginner-friendly. Previous experience in Adobe software is not essential but some experience is helpful, at the very least, a basic level of computer proficiency is assumed.

- In the first week, we will discuss ideas for creating a repeating design using your own artwork, it might be helpful to bring along one to five illustrations you have made at home (drawn with ink, pen, pencil, watercolour, gouache, etc.) or perhaps photos or images you'd like to work with or use as inspiration - some of these may be scanned and used in your print in later weeks.
- Please bring a hard drive to store your files (or a min 16GB USB) to all computer classes.
This class series runs over 2 consecutive sessions, which are 1 week apart.
