What you'll do
On the hunt for things to do in Sydney with kids for the school holidays? Come and have fun animating with real media and breathing life into your ideas. Throughout the day the children will alternate between animating with coloured pencils, clay and paper puppets.
Kids will be guided by friendly animation expert, Ivan and a great introduction to his after-school classes. Ivan begins the workshop by guiding the children through the basic concepts of recording their animation on video using animation software.
Starting with pencil/charcoal on paper with the aid of a lightbox we then move into the clay medium animating simple characters the children build themselves, in small groups, sharing the roles of the animator and camera operator. We will finish the day building simple paper puppets to animate.
By the end of this creative workshop, the children will have completed a series of animated videos, have clay and paper puppets to take with them and have the skills to continue to animate at home or at school.
Parents are welcome to stay back to watch the videos after the workshop, however, to avoid technical and compatibility issues Ivan will email links to download the videos.
Class sizes are limited to 12 students to facilitate finished animation.

All welcome, no skills required. This is an introduction to animation using real media and is open to all kids from all walks of life.
What you'll get
- All the materials needed to make animation videos using real media (coloured pencils, charcoal, paint or clay).
- The animation videos will then be emailed to parents and can be shared with friends and family.

Ivan’s curiosity for creativity took him on a journey to learn the mysterious art of animation. Through his mentor, he not only found a passion for animation but also for teaching. He has since imparted the secrets to this magical medium to children and adults of all ages sharing in bringing stories to life. Animation is bound only by our imaginations. Ivan teaches and mentors in all animation mediums from general techniques to production’s using specialised software.

My name is Jen and I am passionate about encouraging creativity in students of all ages.
Creative Kids Co was founded 11 years ago as a way to encourage and guide children through their own artistic journeys.
I am also the co-creator of IMOK (Art, T-shirts & Design), established in 2004, which opened up the door to commission and exhibit my own artworks, complete illustrations for a series of books, as well as sell my wares at design markets nationwide. I have also held live art demonstrations and was the featured artist with US Surf/Skate Company Volcom.
My current passion is working with resin and urban illustration.
Most recently I have opened Creative Corner Studio in Dulwich Hill, an exciting space hosting all things creative for kids and adults. Reach out and let’s create together.
