I’ve been facilitating open to the public DIY screen-printing studios in Sydney for the past 13 years across a few independent creative spaces such as Anyplace studios in Rozelle, Blackwire records in Annandale and currently run The Printroom out of Monster Mouse Studios in the industrial landscape of Marrickville.

I studied textile design at the Eastern Sydney Institute of Technology and instead of being disheartened by the move of hand printing to digital forms and sitting behind a computer all day, I decided to start my own studio. This could not have been achieved without the support and head start afforded to me by Anyplace projects - a group of folks who reclaimed unused buildings and transformed them into creative community driven spaces.

I spend most of my time teaching people how to screen print, Shibori dye fabrics and other surface design techniques. I print a lot of band merch for friends and friends I haven’t met, and help run Monster Mouse Studios as well as work on my own artistic practice.

Carizza is a great teacher and facilitator. She showed us the various Shibori techniques to use and then encouraged us to explore and experiment on the different materials that were provided. We got to take home a tea towel, two bags, and a few pieces of material. The best part was being able to complete the whole dyeing process during the class. The class was good value, very relaxed and we all had lots of fun.

We enjoyed a wonderful private workshop with Carizza on the weekend. She was very generous with her knowledge and made us all feel relaxed while learning shibori. Most of my friends had never taken a workshop like this before and everyone felt that they all went home with some great dyed pieces…in fact we’re all still talking about it. This was my first Shibori dyeing workshop. It was a real challenge to ignite my creative side.
Clarizza made the experience so fun and look so easy to do. She showed us several different techniques to try and we were given several different types of materials to dye including a tea towel, a cotton tote and calico bag. We were also encouraged to bring extra things from home. I brought a linen shirt. The best part was taking each piece out of the dye pot, revealing the pattern and watching the oxidisation process change the colour from green to blue.

I took my 9 year old nephew to the workshop for his birthday and he said ‘this is probably one of the most fun Saturdays I’ve ever had’. He is crazy about drawing and art and we made screen prints of his drawings. it was a fantastic class and Carizza was a wonderful teacher. She packed so much into three hours and was super patient and encouraging. The venue is an inspiring working artists’ studio and really organised and easy to use. So many colours to choose from. We’re thinking about putting together our own home printing set-up now we know how to do it. Thank you Carizza!

The warehouse was so cool. I was right in the middle of it all. Screen print galore. I was there for 3 hours I learnt how they make tshirts and bags. With the best design . I could of chosen my own but I told her what I want and it came out exactly what I wanted. I chose the inks and she said she’s going to put my paper one on the wall ajar a privilege. As for the teacher a true artist and and a great teacher. I even helped clean up just like real screen printers would. This is my second class first was at home and she sent me everything for a one colour. I did this on holidays a two colour with the professionals.Yay.

Great Shibori workshop with great results! Lovely teacher Carizza told us what we needed to know, answered any questions and guided us to produce beautiful patterns. Plenty of practice pieces of fabric included in the workshop. I also think it was worth taking something extra of you own like a cotton t- shirt. Very enjoyable morning.

Loved this class! Right from the moment I signed up it was ace! Carizza was so lovely and when my kit didn’t arrive in time for my scheduled class time, she rescheduled for me as soon as it did arrive. The kit had so much in it, and it was great not to worry about having to find supplies myself. Everything else that was needed, I had at home already. Very affordable price from what you get/learn from the class.
A laid-back environment and easy to go alone and meet other creative people.
I would suggest going to the class with an idea and design of your own, so you get the most form the class. I'm going to go back.
The teacher is professional and patient.

Carizza was a very knowledgeable and friendly teacher and the class was fantastic. She explained some technical aspects of screen printing, discussed tools and supplies used in screen printing, went over how we could screen print at home and guided us through the process step-by-step. The range and quality of materials that we were able to print on were varied and great (calico, linen, cotton and seeded paper). There is street parking in front of the venue which is also convenient. Carizza was patient and answered any questions that we had and made sure that she gave everyone feedback which was helpful. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested. :)

Carizza is a great teacher, she covered everything in the workshop outline, presented technical information in an interesting, easy to understand manner, and taught through demonstration first, and then by inviting class members to take part so it was hands on before we even started printing.

It’s a great venue because you learn in a space where practicing artists are working.

There were plenty of materials which I loved because it gave us an idea of what we might like to explore in the future.

the teacher was Carizza, she was very easy to communicate with, as it was a very small class she also able to give me skills for the specific use I had in mind for the screen printing. This is my favorite class so far.

Carizza Was absolutely brilliant from the first email where I asked about using my own design before booking the class, through to the end of the session when I was asking her a thousand questions about where to purchase supplies and what is and isn’t possible to do with screen printing.

The products sent were top quality, well packaged and arrived in plenty of time.

Carizza is very knowledgeable and is clearly passionate about what she teaches.

She is a very patient and encouraging teacher and I finished the class feeling so energised and excited. I want to print on everything now

After this course I am deciding to take up screen printing as a hobby. The studio provides a great space to rent which is at a reasonable price. I will definitely do this course again. For an extra $5 Each I could purchase more t-shirts. You are supplied one with the course. I was able to print four t-shirts which I have given to my family.

Carizza is an amazing teacher. I took 3 girls, 10 years of age to do the screen printing class for the school holidays The girls loved it and were able to remember every step of the process. They all found it so satisfying to be able to create their own t-shirts. A lot of fun and highly recommend.

Absolutely wonderful day, was a good mix of learning and practical application. If you bring your own shirts, or totes you can print as many pieces as you like in the time which was really nice. Lovely instructor who is clearly very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this class.

What was the teacher like? Carizza was an expert in screen printing and was a very patient teacher. She explained and demonstrated the whole process in a way that was easy to understand and by the end of the class we had all made beautiful prints of our own. She was really good at managing expectations upfront, letting us know that it does take time and we'd only get to the "doing" a few hours into the class but time went by so quickly. I'd highly recommend bringing some snacks and something to drink for during the class, also definitely have lunch before you go.
How was the venue? The venue was very cool, a nice big, open space, perfect for getting messy & creating things. It was a cool day when we went but I think it would get quite hot in summer so dress accordingly.
If materials were provided, did you like them? The materials were great, we got to choose 1 product to print on (Tshirt, tote bag, Tea towel, Sample bags) and you could purchase extra if you wanted OR better yet be prepared and bring some items with you to print on!
Was the class good value for money? Absolutely!
What did you do / learn? We learnt how to paint the mesh screens with developing fluid, how to dry them, how to transfer your artwork/design onto the screen by exposing it to light, how to print the design onto a product.

Carizza takes you through everything step by step and is super helpful if you have any questions.
Materials were all provided, with the option of bringing our own designs or items to print on if we liked. I really enjoyed the way time was split between learning the process and then putting that process into practice too.
Carizza is really passionate about what she does and I came away from the class with a slew of new knowledge that I'm really keen to put to use in my own artistic practice! ✨

I'd been trying to learn how to screen print from YouTube videos but found it very confusing - taking a private class with Carizza changed everything!

I now have a complete understanding of the process - and while the YouTube videos make sense now - I realise that I will be utilising Carizza and the studio whenever I create new designs.

Not knowing quite what to expect, except that all materials were provided, I took with me the new silk-screen I had recently bought and 5 T-shirts. During the class I was able to produce 6 T-shirts and walk away with a fully utilised screen with various designs that I can re-use at home when necessary.

I booked a small private group of 5 girls (age 10) who are all really good friends. They all loved the class and Carizza was an excellent teacher. She showed the girls so many amazing techniques and they all were able to do easily. Carizza was very clear at explaining what to do and very organised. The girls were very inspired and loved unwrapping their fabrics to see their Shibori patterns.

We will definitely be coming back to do again and would love to try the screen printing too. Carizza has a lot of experience and is a wonderful teacher and really good with kids too.

As I didn’t know anything about screen printing I was a little lost with the beginning process but it all came together during the class.
The materials provided were great and I thought the take home items were usable not wasteful.
The venue was good, parking was easy, although I found it very cold in the warehouse. Maybe in the class notes they could add wear warm clothes (I did but it was still cold)!

This was a great workshop. Carizza is a very positive, friendly and helpful teacher. She had lots of samples to inspire us. We learnt a variety of techniques and produced a wide range of interesting samples ourselves in just a few hours. It was a good introduction to the possibilities of the Shibori dyeing technique and made me want to explore more.

A wonderful hands on experience. Carizza had everything we needed. She even had a screen prepared for us with a design that was emailed prior to class. The process of making the screen was explained and demonstrated and the actual printing was demonstrated step by step. We had every opportunity to use different materials for the printing and a tote bag as well. Carizza was there whenever you needed assistance or advice. The venue was well setup but parking could be a problem as it is in a lane way with lots of driveways. Thanks Carizza for a great session. Our group would glady recommend the workshop. Yes great value.

Carizza was really great in accommodating our large group of 13. She was really clear in explaining the process to us and offered us lots of help throughout the workshop.

We learnt the process of emulsion screen printing from start to finish. We were able to submit custom designs in advance, and print with on the day. We had the choice of t-shirt, tote bag or tea towel to print on which was great. Everyone got something they wanted. You could even bring some extra items to print onto if you wanted.

The shared artist space was a little hard to find & a little cold (it is mid June) but was interestingly creative. Location is easily accessible by Uber or a short walk away from Sydenham train station.

Carizza was a great teacher, very informative and helpful. The venue was really cool - situated in a large artists' studio with a band playing next door (loved the relaxed vibe). All materials were provided - a tote bag + fabric and paper scraps to practice on. Carizza also mentioned how she tries to recycle as much as possible and be enviro friendly. We learned a lot in the 3 hours and it was a very hands on experience. Highly recommend this class!

The workshop was great fun and well planned. Being able to do a few sample pieces before our own was perfect to ensure we got the technique correct and liked the pattern before hand.
I now have amazing linen bed sheets and pillows that I can't wait to put onto my bed.
I think I'll even come back in the future to finish my dream curtains!

Carizza was an exceptional teacher . She explained the procedure with samples and demonstrations in an easy to catch on manner and we were then able to start creating our own samples, with Carizza on hand to make suggestions and assist. I was amazed at how effortless , she made it all seem. One of the most enjoyable workshops I have ever participated in.

This class was well organised by Carizza, demonstration pieces and examples, materials, fabric and dye bath ready to go. The teaching space is set up well with work tables, dyeing and drying spaces. Carizza taught techniques that are easy to follow, but the potential for adding greater detail by combining was also explained and more advanced textile samples were on display to inspire us. Carizza is very welcoming and her knowledge of the indigo dyeing process meant that all our questions were answered in detail. It was great fun too and we got to take a range of our pieces home.

Fabulous screen printing lesson. Clarissa was fantastic in her explanation of the process, and was extremely patient, we really couldn’t have asked for a better teacher.
The venue is an inner city warehouse shared by several artists which added to our artistic experience, a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Easy to find and easy to park close to the venue.
Great value for money, and we have come away feeling confident that we can screen print some of my own designs successfully.

Wonderful session, Carizza was lovely to listen to and showed us how the process worked. She was open to all questions and happy to help out if you're struggling. The small class was really nice and we all got to know each other. I think they only suggestion I would have would be to let people know we can buy screens from the session ahead of time, or bring our own items in to screenprint. I've been recommending this class to everyone.

The class was great and I learnt quite a lot from the teacher’s explanations about the various steps of screen printing. The size of the class was small so I managed to get plenty of work done and take home a bunch of finished pieces which I was really happy with. •What was the teacher like? Carizza explained things very simply which was good and helped us a lot.
•How was the venue? very convenient location
•If materials were provided, did you like them? Yes. It would be good to have the option to buy extra materials as well.
•Was the class good value for money? Yes. The time however went very fast. It would be if possible with all Class Bento workshops to buy some extra time to stay longer and finish projects that would be great as they all seem to be very fast. The teacher has offered to the option to re-enrol again to finish projects which is appreciated.

I have been dying to learn Shibori for a long time and so pleased I came to the workshop.
It was relaxed fun atmosphere.
Learned and got to be creative get dirty and play around with many things to take home as well.

Carizza was a great teacher, explaining all the steps in the process and was great with the kids. It was just myself, my 9 year old daughterand her friend so we got lots of time printing with the screen.
We got to experiment with different materials and different colours which was fun.
We all walked out with a printed t shirt, tote bag and other random printed materials.
I was impressed with how Carizza re-used and recycled everything to minimise waste. The girls were engaged throughout the 3 hours and had a great time. We all agree we'd do it again for sure
