Diverse Art Therapy

Hi, I’m Jay.
I’m an art therapist, artist, and educator, and I run creative workshops that are relaxed, inclusive, and grounded in trauma-informed practice from my gorgeous studio on King St in Newtown 2042.
I’m a white, middle-aged trans man living and working on unceded Gadigal land. I hold a Master of Art Therapy (with ahem Distinction) from Western Sydney University, and I bring over 20 years of experience working with children, young people, adults and families across education, mental health settings and magnificent orgs like KidsXpress, Benevolent Society, MTC, Fambo, Rainbow Families and Innerwest Council.
I'm passionate about creating spaces for folks to slow down, play, and enjoy the process of making. Whether you’re carefully arranging, experimenting with colour and composition, or trying something new, there’s no right or wrong way to do it—no experience needed.
My approach is playful, gentle and supportive. I pay attention to the many ways people express themselves and aim to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, safe, and able to participate in their own way.
I work with people of all ages and identities, and I’m especially committed to creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ communities, neurodivergent folks, and those who don’t always feel at home in traditional settings.
At the heart of it, my workshops are about creativity, curiosity, and connection—both with yourself and with others.
Outside of my work, I’m a parent to four amazing kids and an exuberant Jack Russell Pterodactyl.
