Food and drink tasting for beginners

Australia has been producing its own wine and beer - as we know it today - since the British invasion in the 18th century. From there, Australia’s global reputation for producing some of the world’s best wines has been cemented and is only continuing to grow. Australia’s variety of climates, temperatures and soil compositions makes it an ideal place to grow an incredible array of wines, beers and spirits. Whether it’s a beautiful white wine direct from the Yarra Valley or an Indian Pale Ale brewed in the glasshouse mountains up north, you can be sure everywhere produces its own unique bouquet of flavours that are native to Australia. Because of this, beer tasting and wine tasting in Australia is an incredible experience, unmatched in variety and flavour by any other country

Wine and beer tasting workshops in Melbourne are a fantastic way to further appreciate what you already enjoy, and to gain insight into the process of making what you love to drink. Whether it’s wine, beer or spirits, our wine and beer tasting classes in Melbourne will have you swirling like a sommelier in no time.

Our Melbourne workshops will give you important insight and tips in learning how to identify the flavour profiles, ingredients, woods, and aromas that co-exist in your favourite drink. You’ll learn how to taste wine, and be shown how flavours and oils blend to create individual tastes and textures, and the important roles time and storage methods play in the fermenting process. You’ll learn all of this in a very practical setting as you sip away the afternoon, whilst enjoying a few light snacks.

What to expect at Sydney food and drink tasting classes

Our wine tasting and beer tasting class instructors come from a variety of backgrounds, but all are planted within the industry, creating new and exciting ways to develop and subvert the way we consume alcohol. By engaging with their classes, you’re supporting local businesses who pride themselves on using locally sourced materials and ingredients with a key focus on sustainability.

Whether it’s a boutique gin tasting class where you’ll explore a variety of native botanicals or a whiskey appreciation night that covers the difference between the single malts and the bourbons, our wine and beer tasting classes in Melbourne go above and beyond just beer and wine. You can explore the world of spirits with exceptional distillery tours, tasting platters and crafting workshops. Our Melbourne classes will often have a signature drink that you’ll be able to sample at the end of the tour, combining all your knowledge to enjoy one unique beverage.

Winery and brewery tours are particularly popular with an older demographic, due to their relaxed and easy-going nature, but don’t let that put you off. Our beer tasting and wine tasting classes in Melbourne cater for anyone over 18 and offer both public and private workshops, so you can ensure your group is getting the attention to detail they deserve. A wine and beer tasting class is a lovely addition to a couple’s getaway and makes for a wonderful experience gift. It’s also very popular for bucks night ideas and hens party ideas and is a very nice and relaxed way to get the festivities started for the evening or weekend.

Food and drink tasting is great for your wellbeing

Although obviously unhealthy in large quantities, a glass or two of wine (red wine in particular) has proven to be exceptionally effective in helping the body fight infections and diseases. Red wine and a certain high percentage, Belgian-style beers are rich in antioxidants and can aid your gut microbiome in keeping you healthy. Having a glass of wine a day has also been linked to a lower rate of certain types of cancers, and reducing the risk of dying from heart disease. This is all taking moderation into account of course, but appreciating smaller quantities of alcohol over an extended period of time is a key element of the wine tasting experience, and is important to developing a healthy relationship with alcohol, so you can continue to enjoy it without developing dependence.
