Step away from perfection and let your creativity flow in No Straight Lines, a watercolour class in Marrickville designed by and for queer and neurodivergent adults. Suitable for all skill levels, this class offers a calming, low-pressure space to explore your creative voice, whether you’re a complete beginner dipping a toe in or looking to refine your technique. You'll leave with your own artwork and newfound confidence in watercolours!
Led by Ru Biini, a queer and neurodivergent artist, each session focuses on creating an inclusive and supportive environment where you can express yourself freely. You’ll explore unique, nature-inspired subjects like rare orchids, jewel beetles, and tropical fish, discovering techniques such as wet-on-wet blending, dry brush texture, layering, and more.
With high-quality materials and step-by-step guidance, you’ll develop your skills while enjoying the meditative process of painting. No Straight Lines is the perfect way to establish a weekly creative practice and tap into your creative voice.
The classes are intentionally designed to be queer- and neurodivergent-friendly, with a sensory-considerate atmosphere where everyone can feel at ease. This is a relaxed, offline space to slow down, focus, and enjoy the process.
New class topics are added weekly. Students are welcome to suggest ideas for future classes.
Each workshop will focus on a specific technique, such as wet-on-wet blending or dry brush textures, and you’ll leave with your own vibrant mini artworks. The relaxed environment encourages you to focus on the process, not just the result.
For Autumn Veggie Harvest, paint seasonal vegetables in rich autumn hues. This session will teach you how to capture the texture and detail of items like pumpkins, squash, and leafy greens using layering, dry brush, and wet-on-wet techniques.

Rare Butterflies & Beetles will focus on fine details and textures as you paint delicate butterflies and iridescent beetles. We’ll cover techniques like layering to build depth, colour mixing for intricate patterns, and creating shiny textures to make the bugs come to life.
In Flowering Gum Trees, explore capturing the beauty of native Australian flora. You’ll learn techniques like layering for depth, colour mixing for vibrant blossoms, and brushwork to convey the texture of bark and delicate flowers.
Cherry & Magnolia Blossoms will teach you to paint the soft elegance of spring blooms. This session focuses on bold gestures, wet-on-dry techniques, subtle gradient creation, and delicate detailing to bring the petals and branches to life.
In Red-tailed Black Cockatoo Feathers, focus on rendering intricate feather patterns and textures. You’ll learn layering, dry brushing, and precise colour blending to capture the richness and shine of each feather.
Sparkling Shorelines invites you to paint the glimmering interplay of water, sand, and light. We’ll cover wet-on-wet washes, capturing reflections, and techniques to create sparkling textures and a sense of movement in coastal scenes.
In Peaches & Stone Fruits (rescheduled from March), learn about mixing cool and warm colours as you paint fresh peaches and other stone fruits. You’ll practice techniques like layering, wet-on-wet, soft gradient blending, and achieving lifelike textures and colours in your fruit still life.
Our most popular class Rare Butterflies & Beetles will run again in May.
Falling Autumn Leaves Capture the movement and warmth of drifting leaves in rich seasonal tones. You’ll practise wet-on-wet blending, soft gradients, and expressive brushwork to create a sense of flow and change.
