Roughly 95% of those signing up to do an open mic comedy room bomb big time, and a large percentage of those drop out of the comedy scene altogether because the experience is so traumatic. Yes, we realise there is a large group of people who say, "On TV, that looks easy, I can do that, " but in reality, stand-up comedy is a lot of things, but easy isn’t one of them. Yes, about 5% of those first-timers do ok, or as some would say, "Got lucky." We at the Las Vegas International School of Stand-up Comedy don’t believe in luck. We believe in preparation + opportunity = success. If you prepare and get the opportunity to perform and you end up with a great performance, that’s not luck. With over 50+ years of stage experience in Australia and the USA, plus training over 1600 students across Australia since 2010, we’ve put together a fun but comprehensive open mic beginners’ course, preparing you for your first (or maybe your 2nd or 3rd if it hasn’t gone so well) open mic performance. In this 3-hour course, you will learn what you need to know to look and sound like a polished and seasoned open mic’r. The difference between success and bombing is pre-industry preparation. You’ll learn everything you need to hit the stages like an organised pro. Enuff said. Here’s what you will learn:

I'm just starting and want to do stand up comedy, is this course for someone like me?
Yes, we designed this course with little or no skills and definitely for those just starting out.
My memory isn't so good and stand on stage gives me the chills. can this course help with these type of things?
Yes, the course includes ways to improve your memory and help you get over the stage jitters
There are a lot of full on courses for several hundred dollars, would you suggest taking one of those first or start with something simple and fast first?
We would recommend taking a smaller course first. For example, if you take a full on course of 5 days or 5 weeks (which we offer as well) but decide half way through, stand up comedy is not for you, you'll find yourself out of several hundred dollars for a course, but if you take a smaller, simpler course and you find out, comedy isn't for you, you'll only be out of a few dollars

What times and days are they held?
Parramatta is on Saturdays from 4pm-7pm ( Located 100mtrs from Parramatta station) Surry Hills is held on Sundays from 12noon-3pm (1 block from central station)

The founder has been training students in Australia from 2010 to 2023. His former school (Aus School of Stand-up Comedy) by 2018, was the largest Stand-up Comedy School in Australia with locations in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, and Brisbane. He has trained over 1600 students across Australia, with some graduates going on to start their own comedy schools, such as Sydney Comedy School and School of Hard Knock Knocks, while other students have gone on to become guest instructors at schools across the country. He has over 50 years of experience in the USA (Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles) and Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth Festivals) both as a show promoter and as a stand-up comic performer. His 2017 Adelaide Fringe Show "10 Comics International Laugh-a-Thon show" was voted a "Must See" by BankSA. His graduates have performed in AGT and have made the top 5 finalists in the Raw Comedy finals on TV. His graduates have also performed on Amazon Prime TV (LOL) as well as in every Fringe and Comedy Festival across Australia. He started the Las Vegas International Comedy School in 2026, primarily focusing on training local comics to perform on international stages and the ins and outs of creating, promoting, and selling their own Fringe and Comedy Festival shows. He also created a course just for new open mic comics on the scene. From 2008 till lockdown, he ran the longest consecutively running comedy club in Sydney. His club was the only club selected by Mastercard to participate in their National Priceless campaign and was the winner of The Pride of Workmanship award from Rotary Clubs Australia. The founder "Donte" is also the author of several books including "So you wanna be a Stand-up Comic?-15 things to know before and during" and "How not to lose money with your Fringe and Comedy Festival shows." The Las Vegas International School of Stand-up Comedy now has 3 Aus locations (Parramatta, Surry Hills, and Melbourne CBD).
