3 hours Class size 1 to 20

label $160 (or 4 payments of $40 Afterpay)

Please note: Looking to do a private class for a corporate event, birthday party or special occasion? Check out our private bbq cooking classes!

Produce melt-in-your-mouth brisket and learn the classic American art of barbeque meat smoking with this hands-on cooking class!

Starting off with a tasty starter, the host and chef will give you a rundown of the session over a complimentary beer, before you tuck into some pre-smoked meats so you can discuss the product and the end goal of your meat-smoking journey. You’ll be focusing on barbecue techniques from four legendary barbecue regions including Texas, Kansas, Carolina and Memphis, what separates them and how to utilise the techniques as effectively as possible.

You’ll be taught tips on rubs, timing, temperatures, and the famous Texas crutch method of smoking to enable you to make mouthwatering smoked meats at home. The chef will also show you how to prepare fresh meat for smoking and will demonstrate how to effectively use smoking equipment, as well as making the perfect accompaniments so you can get the most out of your meat.

At the conclusion of the class, you get to sit down together and enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth, fall-off-the-bone fruits of your labour!

On the menu:

  • Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers
  • Memphis Style Pulled Pork with Memphis Mop Sauce and Cabbage and Apple Slaw
  • Texas Style Low and Slow Bass Strait Brisket
  • Smoked Baby Rack Ribs with Apple Bourbon BBQ Sauce
  • Smoked Corn with Jalapeno and Lime Butter
  • Spicy Cinnamon & Chilli Chocolate Brownie

These group cooking classes are perfect if you're looking for fun birthday ideas, unique ideas for a bucks party, and corporate cooking classes. BBQ School endeavours to run all classes scheduled. However, occasionally not enough bookings are made to warrant the class proceeding or a circumstance out of our control dictates that the class will not go ahead. BBQ Cooking Classes, Corporate Events & Catering. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Hunter Valley.

BBQ School was founded in 2004 by internationally trained chef and passionate foodie Ben Farley who identified that while many Aussies were really into cooking on the BBQ, most only had one or two recipes they knew how to cook really well.

Showing keen BBQ’ers how to prepare and confidently cook a collection of simple, effective and tasty recipes was the best way forward and so in 2004 Ben turned his back on a career in Sydney and London high profile restaurants and founded BBQ School.

In our classes, we assume no knowledge but have found that the more a student knows about BBQ cooking, the more they learn from our experienced chef presenters.

To date around 90, 000 people have been taught through the BBQ School.

Our head office is in Willoughby, Sydney but we also operate regular classes in Sydney's Centennial Park, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Hunter Valley and each year the School continues to grow in response to people who wish to cook with more flair when entertaining.

The teachers were very knowledgeable and provide great tips.
The venue was good and central albeit a little basic.
An apron was provided that you keep but it was plastic and little basic. A nice cloth material one would be great so you feel more incline to keeping it.
The class was more of a demonstration rather than a doing class.
We did learn some good tips about smoking times and wrapping the meat.
Tasting the product at the end.

I bought this as a gift for Father’s Day to do as an experience with my dad. It was an awesome afternoon learning how to prepare and cook an American style bbq. Food was incredible, the hosts did a great job walking us through it all and have received some Ebooks with all the info so we can have a go smoking some meat at home. Highly recommend!

You can learn a lot about smoking , and the spicy brownie was fantastic! Great for a gift as well:)

The meat was good but the teacher clearly doesn't understand that a constant stream of sexist jokes and purposly mispronouncing his assistants name to embaress him is not appropriate.

Teacher was engaging and passionate. Answered queries explaining pros and cons which made things clear and gave options. Such as explaining the different cookers and how to distribute heat and lighting coals/ wood

Les Hill • Jan 2023

Great knowledge from the instructors, outstanding food to enjoy at the end. Well done team.

David Peninton • Jan 2023

Great class! You don't walk away hungry! Great hands on, a bit of humour, a lot of knowledge shared and wonderful people to share ideas and laughs! I purchased 3 tickets - hubby and brother and the class was enjoyed by all! Ted and Andrew were amazing! Loved the venue and ease of parking.

This class was ok. Not really hands on, mostly just observing the prep. Somewhat informative but didn’t leave feeling ready to start smoking. Teacher nice & funny at times. Food snacks were good. Main meal was a little disappointing, not super tasty at all.

Paul Bubb • Dec 2022

The two teachers were excellent, had a great style and willing to share their knowledge and gave some great tips and advice.
However, there were many detracting elements-
The venue was hard to find and very basic in nature.
The drink options were limited. Apparently the class the day before had cleaned them out- ah, shops were still open to restock
We were told we would prepare the sides- we were given one option and there was three of us doing two elements. Yes, you have provided the recipes but they were pretty easy options
Outside of your control, but a magpie flew into the dining area and pooped on a tablecloth. We told the young fella (Dan?) and, inside of your control, he just shrugged- AND LEFT IT THERE for the people who then had to sit at that table to eat.

Overall, we were less impressed than we wanted to be.

Teacher's response

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your feedback. Apologies that your day did not go as you expected. We do understand where you are coming from and we have definitely taken your feedback onboard we will definitely work on making our customer's experience much better. We have discussed the matter regarding the bird with our team to understand the situation better, the team on the day informed us that our staff member went to get cleaning items for the table when you informed them regarding the bird. However, by the time they came out, the table was already cleaned by either another staff member or/ customer.

We do hope that regardless of the ups and downs of the class, you still enjoyed your class and had a good time.

Kind Regards,
Tanisha

Our teachers Ross and Andre were fantastic, entertaining, informative and super friendly.

The class itself was fun, inclusive and we got a lot out of it! You do have to come with a somewhat basic understanding of Charcoal bbq’ing and smoking but the teachers were more than happy to talk through anything you didn’t understand

It was a joy to eat at the different bbq’ed meats at the end and loved getting the digital cook book too

Highly recommend this class

Bought the class as a Christmas present. Hubby said the teacher had great presence, and a confidence that was catching enough he tried some things he would normally steer away from. A fun and inspiring class that he fully intends to dig further into.

I have no idea why you are asking me to review a class I didn't attend because of Lockdown.

We found it didn’t teach us anything we didn’t already know however made new friends which made it all worth it.

Bought these tickets for my husband, who loves barbecuing. Good presentation and explanation on how to prepare the foods. The teachers were happy to answer everyone questions. Lovely way to spend a few hours, especially as you get to eat the delights of the afternoon BBQ class.

Louise Rheinberger • Mar 2021

Fantastic teacher, knowledgeable, funny, thorough and delivered the information in a logical fashion.
I would have liked some coleslaw with the meal but it had run out by the time I got my meal. Not a huge issue!

Allison Smith • Mar 2021

All was good. Teacher spent a lot of time answering everyone’s questions in detail.
Wasn’t rushed, good timing.

Fantastic class! Learnt a lot about smoking meats and ate some of the best brisket I've ever had Would highly recommend for anyone at any level of smoking. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and everything ran like a well-oiled machine. I'm still full. :)

I thought the hosting by Seamus was fantastic - he was good with people and quite funny. The location and venue were great. The aprons were NAF - not worth keeping - an opportunity missed if it's a good apron, will be worn later and other people see the branding.
I was a little disappointed by the content. The overall plan of what we were to learn was sound, but it was less hands-on than I expected. More of a demonstration and tasting than a lesson.

Absolutely fun day and highly recommend booking in. The teacher and facilitators are fantastic, everyone is relaxed and it created the perfect atmosphere for all attendees to chill out and learn something new; before enjoying some delicious food.

Sue Morrison • Jun 2019

I went with my 28 year old son and we both found the course interesting, entertaining and inspiring. The teacher, Seamus, was amusing and down to earth and gave us practical and money saving tips, for example, in creating your own smoker. The venue was delightful (in spite of the heavy rain) - a pavilion in Centennial Park with undercover cooking area and a table set inside ready for lunch. It was a very professional operation - all highly organised, very instructive with two assistant chefs to help or hand around beers and excellent equipment. The meal, with three different meats, vegetables (all smoked) and dessert was magnificent and a jolly good time was had by all!
