Discover the art of meat smoking at this fun, hands-on cooking class! You’ll prepare a four-course meal with beer tasting along the way. Learn the smoking essentials from a qualified smoking master at one of the most interactive meat smoking classes BBQ School offers!

When you arrive, you’ll be treated to a complimentary beer and snack as the chef and host run you through the class schedule. From there, you’ll be taught the craft of wood-smoking, how to create the perfect rubs, salts and marinades, and bringing techniques so you can get the most out of your meat. You’ll then put your own skills to the test as you prepare and cook a four-course meal of smoked meats and delicious accompaniments.

As the meat is cooking, you’ll indulge in two sample beers, where you’ll learn the different flavour profiles, what separates them, and how to utilise them in your cooking journey.

At the conclusion of the session, you and the class will indulge in the four-course meal you’ve prepared.

On the menu: 

  • Pulled hickory chicken taco with corn and avocado Salsa
  • Smoked bass strait beef short ribs with bourbon porter glaze
  • Reversed sear bass strait beef rump with chilli salt, rocket and herb oil
  • Smoked potatoes with garlic, rosemary and sour cream

These group cooking classes are perfect if you're looking for fun birthday ideas, unique ideas for a bucks party, and corporate cooking classes.

BBQ School endeavours to run all classes scheduled. However, occasionally not enough bookings are made to warrant the class proceeding or a circumstance out of our control dictates that the class will not go ahead. In these rare cases, we will contact you at least 48 hours beforehand to offer to transfer your booking to another class and date.

BBQ School was founded in 2004 by internationally trained chef and passionate foodie Ben Farley who identified that while many Aussies were really into cooking on the BBQ, most only had one or two recipes they knew how to cook really well.

Showing keen BBQ’ers how to prepare and confidently cook a collection of simple, effective and tasty recipes was the best way forward and so in 2004 Ben turned his back on a career in Sydney and London high profile restaurants and founded BBQ School.

In our classes, we assume no knowledge but have found that the more a student knows about BBQ cooking, the more they learn from our experienced chef presenters.

To date around 90, 000 people have been taught through the BBQ School.

Our head office is in Willoughby, Sydney but we also operate regular classes in Sydney's Centennial Park, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Hunter Valley and each year the School continues to grow in response to people who wish to cook with more flair when entertaining.

Enjoyed the course, both chefs were great (and other assistants), ran smoothly.
Equipment, drinks, food, supplies were all good and I learnt a lot about smoking.
My problem is I only have a gas BBQ (so learnt I really need to also have a smoker if I do this ongoing).

I think it was great value for money, you always will learn something you didn’t know before. I thought I knew how to cook a good steak but there’s so many small elements that go into the perfect steak. I was under the impression when booking this class for my husband and providing his allergy requirements that he would still be able to eat most of the food they prepare and cook. Unfortunately being allergic to dairy and majority of the meats beside the steak were all cooked in butter… and potatoes were smothered in sour cream.
Wouldn’t recommend if you have an allergy, other than that my dad who was able to enjoy the food was impressed.

Firstly, we would like to apologize that we were not able to cater to your husband's dietary requirements, we are always mindful of such things so I believe there must be an honest mistake from our team on the day. Our classes are definitely dietary-friendly and we always come up with alternative options for the customers otherwise reach out to the customers for seeking an alternative option so that is why we apologise for missing that out for your husband.
