3 hours

Class size 1 to 6 (public classes), 4 to 8

$169 - $179 ($179 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $169/guest for 2+ guests) (Afterpay available)

Come spend an afternoon with us on this practical introduction to Blacksmithing, and go home with your very own hand forged results to show for it!
You will experience shaping steel with hammer and fire, as well as learn a bit about the forge, anvil, tools and techniques used in blacksmithing.
This is a great workshop for a bit of teamwork or catching up with a friend, as you team up in pairs and help each other hold and hammer to each create a bottle opener to bring home.
Get a group of friends together, as a company teamwork exercise, or an active bucks party/hens party before going on to one of the many breweries in Brookvale.
What is included in this workshop?
  • Blacksmithing overview: Tools, processes, safety briefing
  • All materials required (carbon steel, hammers, tongs, anvil, gas forge, PPE)
  • Forging your own project with hammer and anvil
  • All instructions and support required
  • Two hours will be spent forging with 30 mins for safety/process at the beginning, and a 30 min beer/soda break at the end.
Please note: This is a shorter version of the Blacksmithing Introduction workshop, where you will forge a simple bottle opener in two hours and then test it on a beer or soda.

  • 5/5 from Skye Stone, attended Sep 2026: Bought this for my partners birthday and we had a great time! Everything was explained very well and the small class meant there's always someone close by to help out
  • 5/5 from Wayne McDougall, attended Sep 2026: Taster class was brilliant. Teacher was good, careful with explanation but not too technical for novices to follow. Felt like we did a bit of everything shaping, bending, flattening, hole enlarging with a variety of tools. Can certainly see how practice makes it a craft. Well worth it and enjoyable, even better as it was a gift. Thanks Guys
  • 5/5 from Russell Langham, attended Aug 2026: Organised for bucks event. Awesome class. Relaxed chilled session with great instructor. Planning on going back for full day workshop.
  • 5/5 from George Preston, attended Aug 2026: This was so much fun. Rohan, the instructor was very knowledgeable and made the class fun. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to experience blacksmithing
  • 5/5 from Fleur Johnson, attended Jul 2026: Bjorn was next level amazing! I got this experience as a present for my husbands birthday and l wasn't sure what to expect. It was so well organised, such clear instructions, everything you need is catered for and you end up with a super cool bottle opener you made yourself. Coming back for more.
  • 5/5 from Chris Pickard, attended Jun 2026: An awesome way to spend an afternoon - forged a bottle opener from a metal block. Sounds easy but lots to learn and do. And the project was just do-able for complete beginners in the one afternoon. The teacher was great, easy to follow and happy to provide little tweaks when your work did do what you wanted!. Plenty of tools and space, working in 2's means that one peice can heat in the big furnace whilst one peice is worked on - a perfect balance. I would definately recommend this, I'm looking for what I can do next.
  • 5/5 from Ashwini, attended May 2026: I recently took an intro to blacksmithing class and left absolutely hooked. As someone with zero experience working with metal, I wasn't sure what to expect — but from the moment I walked in, I felt welcome and excited to learn. Our instructor, Ben, was fantastic. He has a real gift for breaking down intimidating techniques into approachable, easy-to-follow steps without making you feel like a beginner. He was patient, encouraging, and clearly passionate about the craft, which made the whole atmosphere fun and relaxed. Over the course of the class, we learned the basics of working at the forge — heating metal, hammering technique, and shaping — and by the end, we had each made our very own bottle opener from scratch. There's something incredibly satisfying about holding a functional, handmade object that you created with your own two hands. Mine already has a place of honor on my kitchen counter. If you've ever been curious about blacksmithing, this intro class is the perfect place to start. Highly recommend Ben and this class to anyone looking to try something truly unique. I'll definitely be signing up for the next level!
  • 5/5 from Adam Lever, attended May 2026: The whole afternoon was fantastic. My brother and I had a great day. The team at Nordic Edge are legends. Ben was very knowledgeable. The class was easy they walk you through each stage of the process slowly and with ease.
  • 5/5 from Stephen Brewer, attended Apr 2026: Making our own steel bottle openers was the perfect introduction to blacksmithing. The class was well run, only took the hours, and we got into working very quickly after a short safety briefing. My 14 yo son did find swinging the hammer so much quite tiring, but not enough to stop him from finishing the course. He really enjoyed the day!
  • 5/5 from Jim Bullard, attended Feb 2026: An extremely excellent class delivered by Ben. The interactivity and pace of the class was well thought out and the student to instructor ratio was appropriate. I really liked walking away with something that I had personally made.
  • 5/5 from Emily McKnight, attended Oct 2025: Fab class, Rohan was a great teacher and had a very enjoyable time.
  • 5/5 from Tony Divis, attended Mar 2025: Great experience & our teacher Rohan, ensured everyone participated and got the most out of the day. Highly recommend this experience
  • 5/5 from Mici Beer, attended Mar 2025: Great class. The tutor was informative and supportive.
  • 5/5 from Jake Smith, attended Feb 2025: Wasn’t sure what to expect, but the class went through all the stages concisely enough that all the people managed to make a bottle opener. From never having done it, definitely recommend if interested in blacksmithing. A great gift card from idea from my friends!

  • 5/5 from Leah Parisotto, attended Jun 2024: The experience was amazing - a lot of fun, interesting and the teacher was great! Time flew by and it felt like we were hanging with friends when we didn’t know anyone - small group and help /explanation where needed. We will definitely be back for the knife making workshop and even want to try the spoon carving as well!
