What you'll do
Have fun getting your hands dirty - this Sydney workshop is the perfect introduction to the art of block printing!
Over three hours, Rebecca from Made by Me Workshop will guide you through the process of carving a rubber block to create stamps or blocks that can then be printed onto cloth to create an endless array of personalised items to share with your friends and family.
In this hands-on workshop participants will design and carve their own simple block design and then practise with it on paper before using it to create their own block printed linen tea towel or cotton tote bag (select when you book).
What you will learn:
- How to design a simple block print
- What tools are used for block printing and how to use them
- How to safely carve your own piece of rubber
- Techniques and tips for successful block printing
- How to create a repeating pattern and apply this to a tea towel or tote bag to take home
Please note: in most workshops we require a minimum number of people to run our workshops and will do our absolute best to run every workshop we list but occasionally it is not commercially feasible to do so. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we'll cancel the class; in this case, we'll inform you and allow you to get a refund or reschedule.

This workshop is perfect for beginners with no previous experience necessary. We will be using sharp tools so a steady hand and a cautious approach is always recommended.
What you'll get
- An easy carve piece of rubber to create your block
- Use of tools to carve your block
- Use of equipment to print your carved block
- A choice of a linen tea towel or cotton tote bag to print your design onto
- Take home your completed rubber block and everything you have printed
What to bring
- You may want to bring along any design inspiration or block printing references you have, we will have some simple designs that can be used as well as some inspirational images that participants can use to generate their ideas. If you do want to create your own design - just remember to keep it simple!
- We provide everything you need for the workshop including an apron to protect your clothes. Don't dress to impress, we will be printing with fabric ink so it won't come out of your clothes if you make a mess.

Made by Me Workshop is about helping people to connect with their "inner creative" and have some fun while making beautiful things from quality materials in our friendly & vibrant studio space in the heart of the inner west!
Established in 2017 after Rebecca Doyle decided to take a career break and chose to revisit her childhood love for arts & crafts. Rebecca grew up in a large family where money was tight, after school activities where mostly homegrown and usually involved a sheet of cardboard, a glue stick and some glitter! It is probably no surprise to learn that Rebecca followed a creative path to study Fashion & Textile Design at University!
After a few more decades (than Rebecca will publicly admit to) and a long and varied career in the fashion industry, Rebecca wanted to get back to creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind objects - Made By Me Workshop is the result of where this path led.
Rebecca loves that moment of pride that comes over each participant's face when they look at what they have created and say to themselves "Wow - I made this & I love it!"
Made by Me Workshop run a variety of creative workshops, hen’s parties, private parties and corporate events from their studio space in Newtown including Resin Art, Resin Jewellery & Mould Making, Soap Making, Terrazzo Homewares, Punch Needle, Macrame and many more. We are also happy to travel to your venue or host your event in an alternative venue if you require a larger space to accomodate more than 10 people.Â
