Hi My name is Emi. I’ve been involved in pottery for over 15 years and running this studio for 12 years.

At Ceramic Studio En, I create the perfect tableware for restaurants and cafes. My tableware has been selected by a number of Sydney restaurants since 2007.

Here at the studio, everything is made individually with care and passion. I take pride in my craftmanship and ready to cater for your need and imagination.

I would like to share the knowledge and experience of making tableware with you in the class. This is your perfect opportunity to create and add a unique touch to your table at home! Or it could be a unique gift that’s only one in the world for someone special.

So I have completed my first of 2 classes. I had a generous amount of help from the teacher, I came to the class with an idea of what I wanted to make which was a little different to the normal options for beginners, I was very happy that I was able to make what I wanted and that I was supported at every step. The studio itself is lovely and in such a beautiful neighborhood. For the time involved in the 2 beginners classes and what you are able to make with all material provided I felt it was good value for money. I am looking forward to returning to do the glazing of my pot. So great to be able to produce something fairly decent as a beginner.

the teacher was busy with another class and people, and me and another person didnt get much attention or instructions. We were left with a bunch of clay and some bowl molds. I never got a message to say that my pieces where ready, so I never got them

You make some interesting items but one of my friends couldn't find the pieces they were working on.

Wonderful class with a great teacher that is focused on explaining each step. It’s good to know that in the 1st 4 hour class you have 3 hours to make what you’d like and the last hour to prep fir the next step.

It was alright, but we booked the session for 190$ and we were not able to do 6-8 items and it was not really „Japanese“, it was normal pottery and I expected to get to know something about the Japanese pottery.

Thoroughly enjoyed the class however it would be good if the instructor could provide clearer instructions at the beginning. Overall good experience.

A really enjoyable and authentic-feeling 3 hours making Japanese pottery - very relaxing; professional yet relaxed instruction and plenty of scope for choosing designs that pleased me. Would highly recommend!

The teacher provided guidance and also space for me to digest information. A good balance.

The class was fun and can’t wait to see how my pieces turn out after firing.

I've really enjoyed this course so far and learnt a lot of skills that I can use in the future. Our teacher is personable and very skilled and is happy to answer questions. All necessary tools and equipment were provided, and the studio is a cosy place to learn and meet up with other students. If you do the course on a Thursday - lunch options in the vicinity are fabulous! I haven't quite finished yet and will return to glaze my pieces.

I'm happy with my end product - just wish I was given better information beforehand (bring snacks and water!) and during the session i.e. I thought Id get to make 5 pieces but didn't get told it depends on how fast you make your pieces on day one.
You have to assume and/or ask how to do things and where things are. This may be due to a number of classes being run at the same time and only one tutor.

I feel this class just leave people to explore with minimal help or guidance from the teacher. I don't really like how the class is run with several people at different stages of pottery class. I like to have more detailed step by step instruction rather than just being shown once and the teacher disappeared to attend to other people.

Also we have to spend a lot of time searching for pottery we made, and large pottery are placed in an insecure way which can easily get broken. I have also not received any confirmation that the pottery I made are ready to be picked up. Can these be mailed to me?

In general I did not find the class very inspiring or really learned something substantial. I would rather just spend a lot of time making a good product rather than lots of not so great products.

the class was a good value for money initially I thought 4 hours is too long but it actually passed so quickly making the pottery was a really nice experience

Sensei was super super nice She listened to our questions and had very clear instructions. We (short term first day class) made plates and bowls of different shapes and sizes from moulds, and smoothed them/patterned them. The room had fresh air and an authentic feel to it, and a very casual atmosphere. Looking forward to the next class

Part 1 of the course was fantastic. Emi is a great teacher. She explained techniques clearly and was quick to provide guidance and suggestions when needed. There were ample materials and lots of options for pieces to make. I can’t wait for part 2. The studio is easy to get to, just minutes walk from the station.
