Basic Japanese Handmade Pottery Course

How to hand build Japanese pottery in two sessions.

In this superb class delivered to you by the master craftsmanship of Ms. Emi Tanaka, you will learn different techniques used by Japanese artisans to create beloved Japanese pottery.

This class consists of two sessions: one day of making the pottery (hand-building, no wheels) and another day of glazing.

Session one:
You will make slab plates & bowls using different moulds or hand shaping. You can make up to eight plates and bowls in one day!

Session two:
Painting and glazing

Please note: There will be a one hour lunch break during the Thursday and Friday sessions which means these classes will end at 3pm.

Knowledge Required
This is a perfect workshop for a beginner which doesn't require any knowledge or experience.
What to bring
Comfortable clothes (gets messy), an apron if you have one.
Session repeats

After the first session, subsequent sessions can be arranged with the teacher, at a time that suits you.

Part 1 of the course was fantastic. Emi is a great teacher. She explained techniques clearly and was quick to provide guidance and suggestions when needed. There were ample materials and lots of options for pieces to make. I can’t wait for part 2. The studio is easy to get to, just minutes walk from the station.
