Experience the potter’s wheel and learn how to make your own ceramics at this fun beginner’s throwing class at Clay Cartel in Marrickville.

This class is the perfect introduction for anyone wanting to have some hands-on experience working with clay on the wheel. You’ll learn everything you need to know about how to prepare clay, centre a ball of clay and throw different shapes using a potter’s wheel.

Classes include small groups of up to four people so you can learn more throwing techniques in detail. The class will run for two hours and at the end of the class, you will get to pick two of your pots to leave at the studio to dry and fire and also pick the glaze for your pots.

Your teacher will email you once the work is fired and glazed so you can arrange collection. Please note that from drying to firing to glazing takes about four weeks.

You should wear casual and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty as you’re guaranteed to get splattered with clay (don’t worry, clay washes out). Please ensure your nails are cut short and long hair should be either tied back or pulled away from the face. All of your materials and clay will be provided on the day.
