Clay Cartel was an amazing place! We held a kids' birthday party there and the staff were so welcoming and friendly, making everyone feel right at home. The kids all had a great time and it was such a good introduction to clay for most of them. The parents who were there were very busy admiring all the beautiful pieces made at Clay Cartel and wanting to lessons at some point in the future. We are very grateful to the staff members who were obviously busy with their work around the workshop but still took the time to talk to those of us who had questions about clay/process/pieces. We've discovered such a great little gem in the inner west. Would definitely come back when time allows

I recently had the pleasure of attending Clay Cartel in Marrickville, Sydney, for their beginners' pottery class, and I must say, it was an absolutely fantastic experience. From start to finish, everything about this place exceeded my expectations.

First and foremost, Shannon Lewis, our instructor, was an absolute gem. As a complete novice to pottery, I was a bit apprehensive about using the wheel, but Shannon's calm demeanor and patient guidance instantly put me at ease. She took the time to walk me through each step of the process, from preparing the clay to shaping and molding it on the wheel. Her expertise and passion for pottery were evident throughout the class, and I left feeling confident and inspired.

The studio itself was also impressive. It was spacious, well-lit, and equipped with top-of-the-line tools and equipment. Everything was clean and organized, creating a conducive environment for creativity and learning. Additionally, the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, thanks in no small part to the friendly staff who were always on hand to offer assistance and encouragement.

One thing that stood out to me was the attention to detail that Clay Cartel put into every aspect of the experience. From the quality of the materials to the layout of the studio, it was clear that they take pride in providing their customers with the best possible experience.

Overall, I cannot recommend Clay Cartel enough to anyone interested in trying pottery. Whether you're a complete beginner like myself or a seasoned pro, there's something for everyone here. Shannon Lewis is an amazing instructor who will guide you every step of the way, and the studio provides the perfect environment to unleash your creativity. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

The Introduction to the Potter's Wheel Workshop with Shannon was absolutely fantastic! I had never used the potter's wheel before and Shannon guided me through the process. There was a perfect balance of instruction and freedom to make mistakes. I would highly recommend this class and the studio. The studio was very easy to get to with free parking close by at Marrickville Metro. I will definitely be back for another class.

I was excited yet nervous for the class but felt immediately comfortable and at ease once I got there. There was some nice relaxing music playing while others were working nearby in the studio. Our teacher, Shannon, explained the theory and processes clearly and was very patient and kind. I struggled at first with pulling but Shannon was very attentive and was able to help me understand what I was doing wrong. I appreciate her guidance and encouragement. I definitely had a lot of fun and look forward to seeing the completed pieces!

I went to a workshop with my sons partner to enjoy a creative activity together. We had a wonderful time in the hand building workshop. The teacher was helpful and relaxed, it was amazing how much we covered in 2hours, plus we learnt at an enjoyable relaxed pace. We had great demonstrations to help understand what we were meant to be doing, with loads of materials to be creative with, in a friendly comfortable setting. I would definitely recommend and look forward to going back again.

I especially liked we could decide on what we wanted to make from a coil building workshop, like a cup, bowl, plate or vessel. The lesson wasn't totally prescribed and had room for your own creative expression. I really enjoyed adding texture to the clay too.

Did a short hand building class and had a great time. The class is small and got lots of attention with most of it being hands on. Well suited to beginners - one was a very shy young kid who was included and catered for as much as the rest of us. Mostly it was fun and a good way to spend a Saturday morning doing soemthing creative and enjoyable.

Our kids had a great time at the class. They liked that they could get pretty quickly into the decorating / underglazing stage. The teacher was so patient and encouraging and all our kids felt free to express their individual styles. The studio was easy to get to. We drove because it was raining, but we could easily have caught the bus to Marrickville Metro and walked the short distance. My kids said they'd like to do the workshop every week!

This was a great little introductory course and I would highly recommend it. Daniel is a great teacher with a good mix of demonstration, letting us get our hands dirty and showing us how to fix things when we got it wrong. All of us had success (more or less!) with four pots on the first night and were able to get some extras done on subsequent weeks. The course covers throwing, trimming and glazing and each was clearly conveyed. We even had time to slip in a look at some other making methods! This was my first throwing attempt (aside from one go when I was 8) and I still came away with some usable pots from that first night. Will definitely be going back for more at Clay Cartel!

Shelley was great Very friendly and moved at a comfortable pace and fun to learn from. She took notice of small things we needed help on and gave us guidance.

Venue was clean, tidy and cosy. The music was really chill too.

It was well taught ,going through the steps of throwing clay and enough practice to get comfortable. I would be confident approaching a potter's wheel alone now.

My partner and I loved this class. The teacher was soo patient and helpful. The class was small and we learnt loads. My partner was a natural, I was not, but still by the end I was confidently ( well mostly !) throwing the cutest little pots! Definitely worth doing.

Shannon was super knowledgable and very informative. She gave me more ideas than I though for a product I like to produce. The studio is super laid back fells like being at home and so Shannon emphasise that with her beautiful nature, she gave me the experience of working with quiet a few different materials and explained different types of clay too and so much more ohh I loved using the special sponge.(forgot the name).
I liked my class so much that I have paid for a class pass and plan in doing future one on one with Shannon again for a project.

I recommend this class if you’re interested in learning wheel throwing. I am a total beginner with pottery and was really happy with all the handy tips my teacher gave me as she was guiding me. She let me also have a bit of time to myself when I was getting a hang of things, a nice balance :) She was encouraging and again, super helpful. Everyone in the studio was friendly. I recommend!

My sister and I enjoyed a wonderful introductory workshop to clay wheel throwing. Shinhee was an excellent and patient teacher guiding us through the process and providing support when needed. We were also given 20 minutes of 'free' time to create our own unique works. The small classes were excellent. During the workshop we each produced 6 clay pieces from which we could choose two works for firing and glazing. A fun and productive workshop - highly recommended!

What a relaxing way to get creative.
We had all the support needed to make a piece of our choice (within our ability!) and as a bonus, we made a pinch pot. It was an instructive couple of hours and having done a few different clay sessions through different places, this was the best experience of all. Shannon (possible misspelling!) was very precise and was a great guide to clay newbies with her instructions and coaching and yet we got to make our creative choices. We're going to book in again soon!

Venue, materials and teacher were all great. We all decided to make coffee mugs so learned a coiling technique and had time at the end to make little pinch bowls.
Great that we could make the shapes on the day and the rest - the firing and glazing - is all taken care of afterwards.

I enjoyed this course, it covers all you need to know if you have never thrown on a wheel before, Very supportive teacher, helped us all to improve and create our homewares, ready for firing. Would have loved a take home sheet that set out the basics for beginners, as a reminder the next time we feel inclined to tackle some wheel work.

The Potter's Wheel Workshop at Clay Cartel was a beautiful, enriching experience, packed with practical information. Shinhee was highly knowledgable and very patient, clearly explaining the techniques, and giving us lots of tips and encouragement as we practised our new skills. I loved it!

My wife and I had such a fun time out and we have learnt a lot from the throwing classes.
The studio set up is ideal for teaching so there was no time wasted and we got a full-on hands-on class with expert advice.

Thank you so much for having us over. We really managed to get an appreciation for the art.

I really enjoyed this course. Our teacher easily built rapport with us and demonstrated and explained the techniques involved very clearly. Then we were able to make what we wanted, with her guidance and suggestions. I now have skills I can use for future projects. The venue was spacious and airy and all necessary tools were provided. It was lots of fun and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to work with clay.

We enjoyed a delightful evening with a group of five. It was relaxing and fun to learn clay building techniques and to create our own pieces. We had so much fun, the time just flew by! Our teacher, Shannon was very knowledgeable and ensured everyone was well looked after. Thank you We cannot wait to see our pieces after its fired :)

An amazing experience, very welcoming and although we were in a small group of 5 it felt very personalised. 3 hours went by so quick - I just wanted to stay longer to make more designs. This was fun and would recommend to anyone!
