Join Sydney-based artist and educator Sophie Willison for a hands-on exploration of chemigrams, an experimental photographic process that combines light-sensitive photographic paper with everyday materials and photographic chemistry to create unique, abstract images.
In this workshop, Sophie will encourage you to embrace experimentation and discover what can happen when you step away from traditional photographic processes. There are no cameras or negatives required. Instead, you'll work directly with photographic paper, light, and chemistry to create unexpected shapes, textures, and marks.
You'll learn the fundamentals of the chemigram process while experimenting with different materials, textures, and techniques. From painting and drawing with photographic chemistry to using everyday objects and materials to create resist patterns, you'll be encouraged to play, layer, and develop your own visual language through the process.
Throughout the workshop, you'll create a series of one-of-a-kind photographic works, developing your own visual language through experimentation and chance.
You'll leave with a collection of handmade chemigrams to take home, along with the skills and confidence to continue experimenting with the process independently.
