What you'll do
This is tailored for people who are interested to learn one of the most beautiful and elegant styles - Copperplate Minuscules (Lowercase).
No prior calligraphy or lettering experience is necessary, just lots of patience and enthusiasm! This workshop is suitable for those with no experience as well as those who want to refine their existing skills.
During the live online class, you will learn:
- An introduction to the materials, tools and how to set them up.
- Learning how to load the nib with inks.
- Execution and ink flow problems.
- Writing posture and pen grip.
- Fundamental strokes of lowercase letters.
- Forming the lowercase alphabet (minuscules) and thoroughly understanding the shapes of minuscule letters.
This class will meet for two 90-minute classes on the 15th and 16th May 2021 both days. The Zoom session will be recorded for those who are unable to watch the class live. Links for the videos will be sent to you after class has ended and expire in two weeks.
A PDF handout will be sent to your registered email address two to three days prior to the class. The class Zoom link will also be included in the email.
Knowledge required
Absolute beginner-friendly classes which don't require any knowledge.

What you'll need
- A pencil or ballpoint pen
- A glass of water
- Paper towel
- Straight ruler
If you are not purchasing a craft box, you will need:
- Canson or Arttec Bleedproof paper, or any smooth calligraphy writing papers that accept ink well
- Oblique Penholder if you are a right-hander
- Straight penholder if you are a left-hander
- Nikko G, Zebra G, Tachikawa G, Gillott 404 or Hunt 22B
- Walnut Ink or Sumi ink
- Straight ruler (at least 30cm), pencil and eraser

Suitable for
This is a fun indoor activity, suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 16 years old). An adult must be present whilst kid(s) engage with the box.

My name is Cyrus, I am a full-time calligrapher and the store owner of Not Just A Card, a calligraphy specialty shop in Melbourne.
