Elevate — A Full-Day Editorial Fashion Photography WorkshopOne long day. Three Agency Level Models. Four editorial concepts. One complete creative production.10 PhotographersWhy This Workshop? You can hire a model, You can rent a studio, What is much harder to create is a complete editorial production. The right faces. The right styling. Professional hair and makeup. A beautiful location. Lighting designed specifically for the image. Creative direction. And a team capable of bringing all of those elements together.Elevate is a premium full-day photography experience created to put you inside that world.Held at Desk & Studio in Sydney, Elevate brings together three professional editorial models, professional hair and makeup, considered styling, four distinctly different photographic concepts, beautiful natural-light environments and sophisticated studio lighting for one highly productive day of photography.Jointly mentored by Lyn Taylor and Avs Kumar, this isn't a conventional model-shoot workshop where everyone simply takes turns photographing the same setup. It is a complete creative journey.Concept. Styling. Hair. Makeup. Light. Direction. Frame.Throughout the day, you will see how an editorial image develops from an initial idea into a finished photograph.Lyn and Avs will introduce each concept, demonstrate the creative and lighting decisions behind it, work with the models and then mentor participants as you shoot. You will be encouraged to experiment, direct, move, refine your compositions and understand why an image works rather than simply being given camera settings. The aim is simple: to leave with a portfolio that looks as though it came from several completely different editorial productions.Morning - Fashion EditorialThe first half of ELEVATE explores the polished, styled and aspirational side of fashion photography. We begin with a strong graphic fashion concept using the studio cyclorama. Here we explore shape, silhouette, styling, movement, model interaction and controlled editorial lighting.Rather than teaching lighting as an isolated technical exercise, we build the lighting around the photograph we want to create. With two models available, we can also explore relationship, geometry, symmetry, interaction and more complex compositions. From there, the visual language changes completely. We move towards the studio's vintage windows, textured spaces and beautiful natural light to create a softer, more cinematic fashion story. The emphasis shifts towards mood, environment, styling and storytelling. One concept may feel clean and graphic. The next may feel cinematic and intimate. Both are fashion editorial — but approached in completely different ways.Afternoon - Beauty & Avant GardeAfter lunch, Elevate moves into another visual world.Professional hair and makeup takes a more central role as we begin with refined beauty photography. We work closer.Skin. Hair. Eyes. Makeup. Texture. Detail.Lighting becomes more precise, with careful attention to how light interacts with an individual face, skin tone, hair and makeup treatment.Rather than applying a standard beauty-light formula, we ask:What does this particular face and concept actually need?We then finish the day by deliberately moving away from the safe and conventional. Our final concept is avant-garde editorial.Expect something darker, more experimental and visually unexpected.Hair, makeup, styling, shape and light may become more graphic or sculptural.Lighting can become harder, moodier or more directional.Composition can become stranger. The objective is to create photographs that you would be unlikely to produce during an ordinary fashion or portfolio workshop. This final part of the day is about giving yourself permission to experiment. To take risks. To create something memorable.Four Concepts, Four Different Visual Languages.Across the day you will photograph:1. Graphic Fashion EditorialClean, controlled, stylised studio imagery built around fashion, silhouette and shape.2. Natural-Light Fashion StoryCinematic editorial photography using windows, texture, available light and environment.3. Exquisite BeautyRefined close-up photography with attention to skin, hair, makeup and precision lighting.4. Avant-Garde EditorialA darker, more experimental concept using unconventional styling, light, shape and creative direction. These are deliberately not four variations of the same setup. The intention is to create four completely different bodies of imagery. What Makes Elevate Different? Most photography workshops can give you a studio, a model and a light.Elevate gives you access to an editorial ecosystem.Throughout the day, you will work with:
Three distinctly cast professional editorial models
Professional editorial hair and makeup
Considered wardrobe and styling
Four complete photographic concepts
Two models available across key parts of the production
Cyclorama studio photography
Natural-light editorial environments
Vintage windows and textured shooting spaces
Advanced lighting designed around each concept
Creative direction and model direction
Two experienced photographic mentors
Small-group shooting rotations
A maximum of 10 photographers
All of those elements work together to create something much more difficult to organise independently. The ExperienceElevate runs as one complete full-day experience. You will move through four deliberately different creative productions, photograph three professional models and work across controlled studio lighting, natural light, beauty and experimental editorial photography.Coffee will be available throughout the day, with lunch included.Places are deliberately limited to 10 photographers to provide meaningful shooting time, close mentorship and genuine access to the production. This is not simply an opportunity to photograph beautiful models. It is an opportunity to experience what happens when concept, styling, hair, makeup, model, location, lighting and direction all begin working towards the same photograph. Not just a model. Not just a studio.A complete editorial world.Enter it. Create in it. ELEVATE.
ELEVATE is not primarily about memorising lighting diagrams. It is about learning how photographers make creative decisions. You will explore how to:Develop a photograph from a visual conceptMatch lighting to styling, mood and subjectDirect models with greater confidence and intentionCreate stronger fashion compositionsWork with more than one modelUse natural light creativelyRefine studio lighting for fashion and beautyPhotograph skin, hair and makeup with greater precisionUnderstand how styling influences the final frameCreate variety within a single productionRecognise what makes an image feel genuinely editorialPush an idea beyond the first obvious photographMost importantly, you will watch the decision-making process happen and then immediately apply it to your own photography.WHO IS ELEVATE FOR?You do not need to wait until you consider yourself an advanced photographer to experience an advanced production.ELEVATE is designed for ambitious photographers at different stages. If you are newer to fashion or editorial photography, you will gain access to a level of production that can dramatically expand your understanding of what is possible. If you are already experienced, you can concentrate on creative direction, refinement, experimentation and producing distinctive portfolio material.ELEVATE is particularly suited to photographers interested in:Fashion • Editorial • Beauty • Portraiture • Studio Photography • Creative LightingParticipants should have a basic understanding of their camera and ideally be comfortable shooting in Manual Mode.YOUR MENTORSLyn TaylorFounder of Desk & Studio, award-winning photographer and creative practitioner.Lyn brings extensive photographic experience, styling insight and an intimate understanding of the studio's many different photographic environments.Avs KumarPhotography mentor and Founder of IIFP and World Photography Group.Avs specialises in lighting, model direction and applied photographic teaching, helping photographers understand not simply how a setup works, but why particular creative decisions produce stronger photographs.Throughout the day, Lyn and Avs work together as active mentors, demonstrating, directing, observing participants and helping refine images as they are being created.
