On the hunt for unique things to do in Sydney? Learn about aesthetic and practical furniture finishing at this Redfern workshop.
We encourage you to bring in your own projects. Our instructor will consult on different methodologies and techniques and guide you through the process of cleaning and finishing your item.
This class will take place over one five-hour session. A finished product is not guaranteed, but you will be well on your way!
Upon completion of this short workshop you will:
- Have knowledge of general safety practices in a workshop setting
- Understand the principles, benefits and potential of refurbishment and upcycling
- Understand how to clean, strip, sand and prepare a surface
- Have a good understanding of both working with polyurethane and water-based products
- Understand how the skills you learn in this workshop can be applied to other projects
- Have guided, hands-on experience using basic tools

Accessibility
The Bower’s instructors are experienced at facilitating courses for individuals living with a disability. Please let us know about any special requirements prior to enrolment so that our staff can prepare in advance.
Tools and materials
Tools and materials relating to the project will be provided by The Bower. Participants are encouraged to bring along a refurb project from their own home. We ask that participants ensure that long hair is tied back, and appropriate footwear (closed shoes) is worn.
Please bring along the following PPE:
- Facemask
- Safety goggles/glasses
- Earmuffs or earplugs
