Explore the art of glass sculpting by making your own miniature glass bird beads! Led by experienced glass artist Aybike Orhan, this workshop invites you to create your own delicate glass birds using traditional bead-making techniques and authentic Italian Murano Glass. Perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike, you’ll leave with a unique collection of handcrafted glass birds perched on a vibrant, ready-made display.
This is a beginner-friendly class—your instructor will guide you step by step, offering personalised tips and support as you shape and decorate your birds in the flame. You’ll also get to choose from a selection of unique, colourful pre-made glass trees, each mounted on a recycled timber base, to arrange your finished birds into a one-of-a-kind sculpture to take home.
This two-and-a-half-hour session will cover:
  • The fundamentals of glass bead-making and shaping forms on mandrels
  • Sculpting small glass birds using clear and coloured authentic Italian Murano Glass
  • Safe use of an oxygen-propane lampwork torch
  • Techniques for adding detail, colour, and character to your birds

Aybike Orhan (Aybike Orhan Glass) & Simi Eliott

Aybike Orhan Eris is a glass artist and instructor. She began her journey with glass in 2011 when she started studying in the Glass Department at Anadolu University, Faculty of Fine Arts in Turkey — and since then, glass has become the heart of her creative life.

From 2016 to 2024, she ran my own studio in Turkey, where she worked with Italian Murano (soft) glass and taught many students how to make glass beads and shape glass in the flame (lampworking). She is currently based in Sydney, continuing her own creative practice.
For Aybike, working with glass is more than just art — it’s a form of meditation. In her workshops, she loves guiding people through this magical process and helping them create something beautiful with their own hands.
