Class Description: Fold Forming
Fold forming is a relatively new technique in metalsmithing developed in the 1980s, which emphasizes forming the metals into unique shapes and forms without using any soldering.
This is a highly satisfying technique that can result in really fun and interesting forms, which are fantastic when utilised as design features in jewellery and metalsmithing.

Highlights:
This class accommodates a small group, with a maximum of 8 students.
Skill Progression: Learn to create interesting three-dimensional forms from flat sheet metal using hammers. In this class, we will focus on the following fold types:
  • line folds
  • leaf folds
  • forged folds
  • score folds
Once you have mastered the basics of this highly rewarding technique, we will have some free time to work on your own concept and turn it into a pendant.
All Levels Welcome:
This is a beginner-friendly class, no prior metalwork experience required.
Expert Guidance: Our experienced teacher will guide you through the entire process, from the initial sketch or idea to forming techniques. They'll share their knowledge, tips, and tricks to help you realise your creative vision.
Hands-On Experience: Get hands-on with a metal sheet, a selection of hammers, and forming equipment.

Parking: There is only one hour of parking available in the clearway on Pittwater Road in front of The Metal Space from Monday to Friday. The best option for weekdays is to park next to Brookvale Oval, where there is eight hours of parking available during the day. Public transport: The Metal Space is only a seven-minute walk from the Warringah Mall bus stops and the B Line stop. This makes it easily accessible from Sydney CBD as well as all corners of the Northern Beaches.
