What you'll do
Discover the ancient Korean technique of Keum Boo, a traditional method of applying gold leaf to silver and other metals. This hands-on workshop is designed for jewellers, metal artists, and enthusiasts eager to expand their skill set and incorporate luxurious gold accents into their work. Under expert guidance from your teacher, Laura Capplis, you will learn the history, materials, and step-by-step process of Keum Boo, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.This is a hands-on workshop where you will practise and create either a pendant or a pair of earrings of your own design using sterling silver and the Keum Boo technique, incorporating the skills learned in class.What you will learn:
- Get acquainted with the specific tools and materials needed for Keum Boo, including gold leaf, silver sheets, burnishers, and heat sources.
- Learn the crucial steps in preparing your metal.
- Master the process of fusing gold leaf to metal using heat and pressure, achieving a durable and visually striking bond.
- Learn techniques for polishing and finishing your pieces without damaging the gold leaf.

Parking: There is only one hour of parking available in the clearway on Pittwater Road in front of The Metal Space from Monday to Friday. The best option for weekdays is to park next to Brookvale Oval, where there is eight hours of parking available during the day. Public transport: The Metal Space is only a seven-minute walk from the Warringah Mall bus stops and the B Line stop. This makes it easily accessible from Sydney CBD as well as all corners of the Northern Beaches.
