What you'll do
The Introduction to Printmaking is a hands-on class where you will be taught and get to make your own Linocut, Wood block, Wood grain, repeat patter print and try additional techniques like Lego printing, Layer printing and printing on textiles.
Learn the basics in this fun and creative class to set yourself up for your own printmaking at home, or try it out and share your creations as gifts or hang up in your own home.
The perfect way to try it out without spending money on all of the materials and tools, figure out what works best for you and learn from two experienced printmakers.
You will walk away with your own carved Linocut and Woodblock that you can continue printing at home, as well as 6-10 finished print artworks ready to be framed or given away as greeting cards.
*Information for booking students under 18*
Among The Trees accepts students under 18 in two groups:
- Students 13-15 years of age must attend all courses with a parent or guardian. This parent or guardian must also purchase a place in the course and take part. One parent/guardian is able to attend with multiple students.
- Students 16-17 years of age may attend a course without a parent or guardian present.

This workshop is aimed at people with no or minimal experience with printmaking and who are looking for an introduction to the craft.The course is run using hand carving tools, an element of hand and wrist strength is required to carve linoleum and wood. All of the work can be carried out sitting down, the printing at the end of each class is done standing up, but can be completed sitting down if requested.
What you'll get
By the end of this Introduction to Printmaking class you will have:A Linocut block of your own design
A Woodblock of your own design
A repeat-pattern block of your own design
6-10 various printed artworks on paper or as greeting cards
The knowledge to safely and effectively create your own printmaking blocks in addition to printing the blocks created in the class at home.
What to bring
All other materials are supplied, you do not need to bring a design with you but if you want to get some inspiration you can look on Pinterest or Instagram at #printmaking #linocut #woodblock and other tags.You are required to wear closed-toe shoes. Please wear clothing that can get dirty. Long hair needs to be tied back and no loose hanging jewellery should be worn.
Please note: This course may involve materials that are allergens for students. Nut and seed oils, as well as fine wood dust, may be present at points throughout the course. If you have any allergies please get in touch with us.

Among the Trees is an ethical and sustainability based start-up for reclaimed timber located in Marrickville.Â
Saving timber from demolitions or other discarded uses and making it available to the public through a retail timber shop and woodworking classes. Accessibility to wood doesn't just mean being wheelchair friendly (which we are), it also means helping customers understand how to use and source reclaimed timber. To make it as easy as possible to work with, we offer custom machining and glueing, so the timber in our store can be squared, resurfaced and cut to specific dimensions. We also help empower individuals to have the confidence to undertake woodworking projects by offering woodworking beginners classes that are taught with simple hand tools.Â

Lumberyards and wood workshops can be intimidating sometimes, ATT is one of the few places that caters not only to architects, planners, homeowners as well as carpenters and tradespeople but also to customers that have little to no woodworking experience and are embarking on DIY and student projects or trying their hand at repair, renovating or building.Â
Our workshop at Among The Trees is set up to be the perfect space to learn about hand tools, reclaimed timber, and woodworking. We’ve been hard at work collecting, restoring and tuning all the tools required to learn woodworking, and a few extra ones as well.
