What you'll do

Looking for fun things to do in Sydney? Get ready for some cosy knitting with Three Cats Yarn!

In this course, you'll learn how to knit socks from toe up over two lessons, with some homework in between.

You will first start with a 100g skein of hand-dyed sock yarn wound into a cake, ready for you to start knitting.

In the first session, we'll cover:

The anatomy of a toe-up sock
How to cast on with your chosen needles in the round
How to increase for the gusset

Between your first and second session, you'll need to knit the foot of the sock.

In the second session, we'll cover:

How to turn the heel with short rows
How to join back into the round
Stretch cast-offs

If you book the class ahead of time, you are welcome to choose the colour of the yarn from the gallery above. However, if booking with short notice, you may be supplied with graffiti instead of your selection.

Knowledge required

This class assumes you know how to knit, purl, cast on, and bind off. The class will teach you about increases and decreases and knitting in the round if you are not familiar with these techniques.

What you'll get

100g of hand-dyed 8-ply / DK weight sock yarn (nominate your colour)
A printed copy of the pattern for knitting a pair of top-down socks using 8-ply / DK weight wool

What to bring

Your sock needles of choice - between 3mm and 3.5mm in size:

A set of 5 double-pointed needles
A set of regular-length circular needles with a large circumference (90cm is good)
A set of short circular needles and cable with a very short circumference (23-30cm is good)
A set of 3 Addi Crazy Trio needles (or similar)

Your teacher will have a small selection of double-pointed needles and circular needles available for purchase on the day.

Session repeats

This class series runs over 2 consecutive sessions, which are 1 week apart.

Three Cats Yarn, Nauti Studios - 189 St Johns Rd, Forest Lodge Sydney, NSW

This venue is a short walk from bus stops on Parramatta Road near Glebe Officeworks and Sydney University. Street parking is available on St Johns Road and surrounding streets, but do double check signs.
