Kurinuki Clay Carving Workshop - Level 2

Extend your skills and the possibilities of clay carving through Kurinuki in this Level 2 Workshop

2 hours Class size 1 to 10

label $105 (or 4 payments of $26.25 Afterpay)

Transform a block of clay into a spontaneous, textural vessel through the clay carving technique of Kurinuki.

Kurinuki (which in Japanese means 'to hollow') is a pottery technique of carving a vessel from a single block of clay. This technique is all about embracing spontaneity and imperfection while creating your sculptural forms.

In this intermediate class, you will extend and build on your existing Kurinuki skills and make your very own sculptural vase. This will be dried, fired and glazed for collection at a later date (approximately four to six weeks later).

The vase you create in this class will be completely functional provided no cracking occurs, you will be able to finesse your carving technique to avoid this. It will act as perfect vessel for your favourite blooms once they have been glazed and fired.

At the end of your class, you'll be equipped with all the skills needed to continue this mindful craft in your own time.

I am a full-time high school Design and Technology teacher who is an avid lover of all things clay. I have enjoyed making throughout my years at high school and university and have found a medium that I am truly passionate about.

I studied Ceramics at UNSW Art & Design and discovered my love for wheel throwing around 4-5 years ago and have not stopped since. I am forever searching for ways to improve and build upon my knowledge of all things clay and have recently been sharing my passion for the medium through teaching pottery classes over the last year.

I am inspired by Japanese ceramics and have been learning various techniques that I want to share with the wider community to hopefully ignite a love for ceramics that reaches all.
