Kurinuki Pottery Class

Carve. Slow down. Embrace the imperfect.

2 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests

$120 (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Step into our cosy studio and discover Kurinuki, a traditional Japanese pottery technique that means “to hollow.” In this hands-on, beginner-friendly class, you’ll start with a single solid block of clay and slowly carve it away to reveal an organic, one-of-a-kind vessel that’s entirely your own.
Kurinuki is all about intuition and imperfection. Rather than aiming for symmetry, you’ll be encouraged to work spontaneously, letting the clay guide you. The process is deeply calming, tactile, and surprisingly freeing - perfect if you’re looking to slow down, get out of your head, and make something meaningful with your hands.
Our experienced and friendly instructor will guide you step-by-step, with live demonstrations and plenty of one-on-one support. With a maximum of 8 students, you’ll enjoy a relaxed, personalised experience in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Over the course of the session, you’ll carve and shape up to two functional vessels, such as cups or small bowls. Once complete, your pieces will be carefully dried, fired, and glazed in our studio glazes.
They’ll be food-safe, dishwasher-safe, and ready to use - ideal for your daily coffee or tea ritual.
Expect a warm atmosphere, great guidance, and a complimentary cheese and cracker platter while you create.
We’ll glaze and high-fire your pieces (2 are included) to 1240°C, making them food-safe and suitable for the microwave, oven, and dishwasher. You’ll be able to collect them in about 4 weeks. Want to make extra pieces? You can! Each additional item is just $10.
We promise you’ll find this class relaxing, rewarding, and maybe even a little addictive - you might be back for more!
Come along, get creative, and take home something truly handmade by you.
