Welcome to Bad Writers Club's Teen Creative Writing Program! Join us for six weeks on Zoom on the following dates: 21, 28 Oct, 11 November (no class on 4th - Cup Day), 18, 25 Nov, 2 Dec.
Ready to level up your storytelling? Our six-session program is designed for teens who want to create unforgettable characters, build vivid worlds, and craft stories that keep readers hooked. Whether you’re scribbling in a notebook or drafting your first novel, this course will give you the tools (and the confidence) to bring your imagination to life.
What We’ll Cover:
Weeks 1 & 2 – Main Character Energy
Session 1: Creating Main Characters
Discover how to build protagonists readers can’t forget. You’ll learn what makes a character tick, their wants, wounds, fears, and secrets, and how to put them at the centre of your story.
Session 2: Adding Drama!
Turn up the tension. Explore conflict, obstacles, and high-stakes choices that keep your audience on the edge of their seats.
Weeks 3 & 4 – World Building
Session 3: Building Your World
From small towns to fantasy kingdoms, every great story needs a setting that feels real. Learn how to create worlds full of detail, atmosphere, and possibility.
Session 4: Character Meets World
Watch sparks fly when your character collides with their environment. We’ll explore how setting shapes behaviour, choices, and story direction.
Weeks 5 & 6 – Plotting the Journey
Session 5: The Character Arc
What changes does your character go through? We’ll map out their transformation and the emotional beats that give your story power.
Session 6: Writing Scenes and Chapters
Bring it all together. You’ll learn practical techniques for structuring chapters, building momentum, and writing scenes that shine.
Why Join?
This isn’t a boring classroom – it’s a creative lab. You’ll write, share, and experiment alongside other young writers. By the end, you’ll have stronger characters, richer worlds, and a clear sense of where your story is headed.
What you'll get:
  • A fun, experienced, and engaging facilitator.
  • Program workbook and light homework after each session.
  • A space to discuss creative ideas with your new community of writer friends.
  • A judgement-free zone, where bad writing is encouraged and put-downs are not!
*Great for school and youth community groups as well as individuals. Ask us about group rates.*

WRITING & EDITING WORKSHOPS & EVENTS
Ridiculously fun
Unashamedly lowbrow
Naarm (Footscray)
BWC was born out of a desire to write with freedom and wild abandon … to write and create with no limitations, judgement, or self-imposed barriers.
We all have the right to suck … in fact, we MUST suck on the way to becoming GOOD!
It takes bravery to keep going when it feels like everything that comes out is utter rubbish … but there’s a reason we call it a writing PRACTICE.
Good writing comes with time and repetition, but it can be a really hard and lonely experience, so we created BWC.
A place for all kinds of writers to be together, try things, make mistakes, learn stuff, and have a massive amount of fun in the process.
BWC is more than a writing club. It’s a place to suck in safety, while growing, stretching yourself to be better, and surrounding yourself with folks who get it.
