This is course in contour drawing and painting on the right side of the brain, including colour mixing, and loose watercolour techniques. This exercise will put you into the right side of your brain, which is the artistic side.

Suitable for both absolute beginners and artists with more experience.
 
What to bring
  • Watercolours paints - With a variety of colours in yellows, blues, pinks, reds
  • A very fine tip waterproof black marking pen (I used.05)
  • 2 x water containers
  • A1 white printers paper (for the basket of flowers painting) or any other thin drawing paper. It’s important with this exercise to paint the large basket on a cheaper piece of paper so you can relax a bit more and not worry if it doesn’t work out the first time. This is meant to be a beautiful sheet of wrapping paper.
  • A4 hot pressed (smooth) 300gr watercolour paper (for the bouquet in ink)
  • A3 hot pressed (smooth) 300gr watercolour paper (for your own still life flower arrangement)
  • Size 10 NEEF mop brush (I used for the large wrapping paper)
  • Size 6 mop brush (for the pen bouquet)
  • 8B lead pencil - very sharp (for the wrapping paper flowers in a basket)

Dianne Kelly is a Brisbane born-and-based professional watercolour artist.

Di was originally trained in commercial/fine art, working in advertising before pursuing her absolute love and sharing her passion for watercolour painting.

Di is still teaching 32 years later and has now fulfilled her dream of writing her first book, The Art of Watering Colour. Over the years, Di has had several of her paintings published as limited edition prints, as well as producing several ranges of gift cards featuring watercolour images from her overseas travels.

Di’s works hang in collections around Australia and overseas and are currently being incorporated into her new range of fabrics and wallpapers and swimwear.
