What you'll do

Avid candle shopper to candle making master, join Vishakha Patel for this hands-on live streaming workshop and discover how to make candles yourself!

When Vishakha first started making candles, she didn't realize that what started out as just another new experience would turn into a passion she wouldn't be able to get enough of.

Over one and a half hours, share the joyful experience of hand-pouring natural soy wax candles with blissful fragrances.

Class outline:

Understand the material and equipment needed
Choose the right size wick
Discuss the secret candle formula
Pampering the candles, packaging and presenting!

Your teacher will also share some really practical tips and information for trouble-shooting so that you leave not only with the beautiful candles you would have made, but also the knowledge that you can do it on your own in future.

At an end of a session, you would have made a beautiful, scented candle yourself to flaunt to your friends and family while you still have the material in your craft kit ready to make five more candles later on.

And it's no secret that the scented candles would make perfect gift ideas for any occasion, for they are both festive and timeless.

What you'll get in your craft kit

6 x medium oxford candle glasses in transparent white
6 x wick stickums (15mm)
6 x HTP 83 - 150mm long tab wicks
3 x 300g bars coconut soy blend summit wax - Denali
3 x 30 ml candle fragrance oils (lotus flower, tropical coconut, champagne and strawberries)
2 x wick holders
2 x wooden pegs
1 x bamboo stick
1 x mercury thermometer
1 x wax pouring jug 1L
6 x round warning labels

What you'll need

Two sauce pans/pots to make a double boiler to heat the wax (best is to get the aluminium melt jug listed under add-on)
Gas stove
Would be great if you have some peels or dried herbs to decorate your candles but please don't bother if you like it classic white!

I have always had that intuitive urge to 'create' something with a purpose: a new vegetarian recipe, a cake that would still be calorie-friendly, a soap that would nourish my skin with essential oils, a paining that would tell a story of my childhood, a candle that would smell divine?

So, my pursuit of the little joys of life that would bring me an experience as well as a creative satisfaction continues as I host cooking, baking and crafts socials at my apartment. In my journey of hosting these workshops in Sydney, I have come across a range of creative people, many of whom discovered it to be a fun hobby and some who have taken it further and started selling stuff online.

My eyes were stuck wide open as I received the craft kit. It had everything exactly as described in the class listing - 6 glasses to make candles in, 6 wicks, 6 stickies, 6 warning labels, 3 different scents, 3 wax slabs, 2 wick holders, 2 pegs, 1 stirrer, 1 jug and 1 theremometer. It's A LOT of things for the price I paid. The online class was equally awesome. We were explained the whole process on a zoom call while Vish making the candle herself on the camera and showing us all the steps in the process in detail. So glad how my candle came out in my first attempt at candle making.
