Meet Glaze Galleria

Meet Glaze Galleria

By Tiffany Fung

When Bruna Rodwell signed up to volunteer for a local sculpture exhibition, she had no idea it would re-ignite her passion for pottery and set her on a new path.

One short course later and she was hooked. Bruna said goodbye to her day job and opened Glaze Galleria, her very own cosy clay studio and homewares shop in the heart of Drummoyne. It’s here that Bruna hosts casual pottery classes and introduces first timers to her love for the humble ball of clay.

Whether you’re enchanted by the potter’s wheel or eager to shape ceramics, a workshop guided by Bruna might be just the thing you need to spark something new.

Working with clay will encourage you to…

Wheel throwing

“Take your mind away from anything else you are working on. You have to give clay your total 100 per cent concentration. I can be up here for hours sometimes and the time flies. I love being able to finish an item at the end and get that satisfaction from making something.”

My top tip for first-timers is…

Pottery classes

“Get in there and try it! Hand building is probably the best place to start as it's a good way to get to know clay. In terms of the wheel, you've got to persist and keep going. Trust that the more you do it, the more the techniques will be familiar and become instinctive for you over time.”

Clay and sip is…

Clay and sip classes

“An easy and fun way to try something that may seem a little bit intimidating. You can have a play, sip wine and eat some food. It relaxes everyone and the more calm you are, the better you’re going to be.”

I love supporting local…

Pottery studio

“My biggest supporters in the local community are other studios in the area. Some of their products are on display here because I thought it would be nice to have a mixture of different works and support each other as well. ”
