Joel was a great teacher! He was personable, gave easy and clear instructions, and came well prepared for the class including drinks and snacks! The kitchen easily fit everyone in the class and the group we had was easygoing. Joel said that the kitchen was going to be remodeled soon, so I'm sure the new space will be top notch when it's done! I think the course was great value for money. I learned a lot, and despite having issues with my pastry we managed to resolve the issue and get back on track, and my croissants turned out better than expected! I was able to share my croissants and danishes with family and friends when I took them home, and they were a hit! We made a croissant dough ball from scratch to take home, so I've practiced the techniques again and made another batch of croissants to freeze - we'll see how they turn out!

Elin was a great teacher! She was patient and kind, and gave good instructions. Her home was comfortable, bright, clean and the instructions to find it were straight forward. She was ready with all the materials and tools we needed, and it gave me a good idea of what I would need to buy for home to make sure I had the right baking supplies to continue practicing what I'd learnt. I thought it was good value for a private lesson, but I would have preferred to spend less if it was with a group. I piped about 14 roses and learned how to transfer them onto the top of a cake that Elin had pre-made. They turned out prettier than expected for a first time! I also learned how to pipe small green flowers around the roses. I liked the detailed instruction and helpful corrections that Elin gave, to help me make better roses each time. The cake was beautiful to look at, the sponge/jam cake was light and fluffy, but I'll admit that I'm not a big fan of the taste of the bean paste used for the icing. I understand that it makes it easier to pipe for beginners, but unfortunately my family didn't finish all of the cake - I'm glad I had the experience of learning how to do it, though, and it's sparked some inspiration for me to keep baking new things!
