What you'll do
In this beginner sewing class in Canberra, you'll discover the many functions of an overlocker machine. Learn the basics and take home a wealth of knowledge to start experimenting with at your leisure.
Get ready to dive into the wonderful world of serging! This class is perfect for those who want to sew knits or finish their seams with ease but are feeling intimidated or unsure where to even start.
This personal one-on-one class will set you up for success, including:
- Identifying the parts of your machine
- Threading your overlocker
- Four-thread, two-needle function
- Three-thread, single-needle function
- Changing back from three to four thread
- Practise samples
- Tension
- Finishing the ends
- Overlocking corners and curves
- If time allows: Rolled hem and lettuce edges
Aims will guide you through each step during the 1.5-hour session, ensuring that you never feel overwhelmed.
All the materials and equipment you'll need for the class are provided, including fabric, thread, and overlocker. However, if you have an overlocker/serger, it’s advised to bring it so you can familiarise yourself with its unique functions.
You'll also get to choose a time that suits you too! Usually offered Monday - Friday, between 9 am - 5 pm.
The supportive environment will help boost your confidence as you learn new skills and tap into your creative side. Get ready to experience the joy of sewing!
