Shibori Dyeing for Children Workshop

School Holiday Fun for Children

Adults & 6+ years     3 hours Class size 4 to 6

label $60 (or 4 payments of $15 Afterpay)

Shibori is an ancient Japanese textile art which is a manual resist dyeing technique that has been used in Japan for centuries. Shibori traditionally uses beautiful blue Indigo dye.

In this beginner friendly workshop the children will be introduced to a variety of basic Shibori fabric folding techniques by a qualified textile teacher using wood blocks, rubber bands, string and other items to produce a sampler which will be dyed.

The sampler will form a tea towel which children will take home.

From this the children will create their "own artwork" on a calico bag which will be provided by the teacher.

The children can apply the techniques already acquired in the sampler to produce this finished piece which they will take home also.

The children are also welcome to bring other items from home such as a plain white T-shirt that they may wish to dye using the techniques learnt in the workshop.

The children will leave this workshop inspired to continue their creativity in the textile arts.

Please note: The work shop has been particularly designed from a teacher perspective for teaching children and is very safe with no sharp or dangerous objects. This is a fun interesting workshop that children will love.
