Most people think Indian cooking is complicated. Too many spices, too many steps, too much mystery. Bhavna Kalra Shivalkar has spent 12 years proving them wrong — and more than 2000 Sydneysiders have left her kitchen wondering why they ever ordered takeaway.
This is Bhavna's signature masterclass: four hours of hands-on cooking, storytelling, and the kind of cultural insight you only get from someone who grew up eating this food in Mumbai. As an Indian cultural advisor to the Powerhouse Museum and the creator of Sydney's beloved Little India food tours in Harris Park, Bhavna doesn't just teach you recipes — she teaches you to understand Indian food from the inside out.
You'll cook a six or seven-course home-style Indian feast:
Kadhai Chicken OR Pepper Chicken
Pindi Chole (chickpea curry)
Methi Dal
Lemon & Peanut Fried Rice
Mushroom or Egg Korma
Mangalore Buns or Parathas
Beetroot or Corn Raita
These aren't restaurant dishes dressed up for non Indians. These are the meals Indian families actually cook — the ones that taste like someone's mum made them.

Bhavna Kalra Shivalkar runs a Cooking school in Sydney called 'The Modern Desi Co' where she tries to break stereotypes about Indian cooking and making budget-friendly, nutritious food.
Bhavna is on a mission to teach people that there is more to Indian food than Butter chicken and Rogan Josh. Her cooking classes showcase her love for food and are infused with storytelling and memories so you can understand and appreciate where the ingredients came from and how easy it is to whip up a six to seven-course Indian meal any day of the week.
