Growing up in a family of French chefs, I have always been passionate about food and used my baking skills to make friends around the world (who can resist a beautiful cake made with love?).

I shifted my focus from cake to bread a few years ago and worked for a couple of months in a bakery to learn the basics. 2020 and its lockdown gave me the time to perfect my techniques using only general household equipment.

Making my own bread every week gave me so much joy and satisfaction, I now want to share my passion with everyone!

Viola! My first loaf is a triumph!
Thank you Marion for your patience and wisdom. Some like me were newbies, others seeking insight and strategies. All were well catered for.
We also learnt to made our own crackers and pancakes with the discard which Marion matched expertly with a charcuterie board. It was a lovely touch and a great experience.

This course was really great. It delivered everything that was stated and so much more. Marion was very knowledgeable about making sour dough bread and has an engaging style to her instruction. She is well paced and stops to demonstrate so everyone can follow and then moves around the class to make sure everyone is progressing.

Lunch was great using some of what the class made as a part of the food.

We left with goodies and clear instructions on how to proceed further, both verbal and in an extensive document.

I cannot recommend this any higher.

Our teacher, Marie was so knowledgeable, organised and professional. The venue was lovely and we shared an amazing cheese platter for lunch. I learnt so much and got to ask questions which Marie answered comprehensively. She also had essential kitchen tools for very reasonably priced purchase. This course was excellent value for money.

What an awesome class! I can't say enough great things about Marion's sourdough baking class. As soon as all participants arrived, Marion took us thoroughly through all the steps of bread baking while overseeing our own creations. We had plenty of time to ask various questions about the process, and Marion also provided valuable troubleshooting tips. During the class, we had several breaks, which were used to prepare more bread products, such as sourdough crackers and pancakes. Not to mention that we also had time to taste everything (freshly baked bread, crackers, and pancakes), and Marion generously offered a plate of charcuterie as well. The entire class was very well organised, which also made me inspired about improving my own baking techniques and equipment. Well-equipped with knowledge and a starter kit, including everything I needed to bake my first loaf at home, I left very satisfied and ready to spread the sourdough love ;-)

Such a wonderful experience! Easy location to get to, lovely teacher and great company. There was a lot of to learn but Marion made us feel comfortable and guided us at each step. It was so nice being able to try some freshly baked sourdough bread, crackers and pancakes. All of which were delicious! Looking forward to baking my loaf of bread tomorrow. There was a lot included in the cost of the class: a jar with the beginnings of a starter, bakers flour, ingredients for the starter and a banneton.

In the past I'd tried (very badly) to make sourdough. I bought books, read websites, and watched YouTube videos. And still, every time I ended up with a dense loaf more suitable for playing a game of football or breaking my neighbour's window than something for eating.

After only a few hours with Marion, LOOK AT WHAT I MADE

I would highly recommend this class. The notes she provides are as excellent as any book I've got on the topic. And if you're not sure about what to buy, she sells those too.

She is an excellent teacher and was able to show me what I'd been doing wrong. I would recommend this class as a first stop of you're wanting to go down the path of making your own excellent bread from home

A five star sourdough experience with Marion! The location is 8 minutes walking distance from North Sydney train station or ample street parking nearby. Marion has a beautiful, immaculate apartment and is a fabulous hostess. We learned how to score and bake our sourdough for after the class, and how to use sourdough discard for crackers (delicious) and pancakes (also delicious). We made our own sourdough loaf to bake at home as well as our own sourdough starters. Marion served us a delightful charcuterie board with sourdough bread and crackers then pancakes afterwards. We received a goodie bag with flours to keep our starter going for a few days, as well as the banneton, bread lame blade and an email with all the steps and recipes covered off during the class. This class is good value for money, especially considering the length of the class, the food served and the additional inclusions. Lots of helpful discussion around common mistakes and tips for success. Fantastic experience and I highly recommend - thank you!

It was an amazing experience.
Marion explained everything we need to know about sourdough preparation and was happy to answer any concern or questions we had.
The class is small ( 4 bakers + Marion) which made it easier to learn. When I booked the class, I wasn’t expecting that I would learn sourdough making that well as most of the classes would be mainly for fun than actual teaching.

Marion was very generous, she prepared for us beautiful brunch from the starter that she made (bread, crackers, pancakes) which made the experience more fun, and the location was fabulous facing the harbor bridge.

I really enjoyed Marion's sourdough bread making class. We were a small group of 4 and Marion welcomed us into her home. She is very personable and patient. The class was well organised. We had a lovely lunch of fresh sourdough bread and cheese platter. Marion taught us how to make crackers and pancakes with the discarded starter. At the end of the class, we were given goodie bags to make our own starter and a bento basket for our bread. I would definitely recommend this class to others.

Marion runs one of the best cooking schools/classes I have attended and I have attended classes from Europe to Thailand. She is a delight and has also a lot of experience and technique that she willfully offers you to ensure, what is actually quite a technical process that I couldn't master at home via google, results in you not only being able to make sourdough but I think I will definitely stick with it. Marion was relaxed, organised, patient and perfect to lead us through our first sour dough making experience. We loved the session, and feel well prepared to make our own sourdough going forward. There were a couple of surprises along the way, and the tasting was delicious. It was a lovely way to spend a few hours on a cool Sunday.

Marion provided a very detail guided workshop that was easy to follow and taught us great techniques. The lunch of the cheese platter and freshly baked bread and crackers was a perfect way to end the class.
Let’s not forget about the fluffy pancakes with Nutella!

I recently attended the Sourdough Making workshop with Marion Chanliaud, the teacher, and found it so inspiring and informative. It was a small group of 5 participants so there was plenty of time for questions, answers and practice. The session started at 9.30 and concluded at 2.30pm so we had time to make the starter, bake a loaf of sourdough, make cracker dough and sourdough pancakes with Marion's starter that she provided. We stopped for lunch and devoured a delicious spread of all that we made including a wide variety of cheeses, dips, small goods and fruit. Marion is a very skilled, organised and engaging teacher and was very welcoming. She imparted her knowledge and some highlights of her professional life willingly and with humour which made the workshop even more memorable. It was very good value and the take away bags were filled with everything you needed to continue growing your own starter and to make an extra loaf at home. At the end of the session, Marion emailed a beautifully and well considered document setting out all the instructions of all the recipes we covered with an invitation to contact her at any time if we ever got stuck. Coming from no previous experience, I now have the confidence to make sourdough, crackers and pancakes and I look forward to a lifelong journey of baking. Marion holds the classes in her own apartment with a beautiful view of the harbour bridge and Opera House and the amenities were spotless. I thoroughly recommend this workshop to any one and any gender to participate in as it was so much fun and so informative.

What a wonderful day. Marion’s style was relaxed and very helpful. I loved the way she explained things and her passion for baking was clearly evident.

Marion's sourdough class was fantastic! It was well organised and structured, and the time flew by. Every bit of food was deliciousshe clearly knows her food and wines well! The class size is kept small, which means you can ask as many questions as you like, and Marion is very knowledgable and experienced. We left with full bellies, plenty of verbal and written information, and all the equipment and ingredients to get started on our own bread making at home. Marion’s class is incredible! It was so well structured and super instructive. She is an amazing teacher - so patient and warm with an amazing knowledge of the science of fermentation. The spread of snacks was also super generous! We nibbled on sourdough bread, crackers and pancakes as well as a lovely spread of fruit, cheese etc. Highly recommend. You also leave well-equipped to bake your loaf along with all the instructions you need to continue on your baking journey.
