Choose your preferred design and trace the outline onto the tufting cloth. Our team will help adjust the size and placement before you begin (you can draw your own design or ask our instructor to help sketch it for you before starting.）

Join Biu Biu Studio for a fun, hands-on rug tufting workshop in the heart of Sydney CBD. Come with a friend, make it a date, celebrate a birthday or simply spend a few creative hours making something together. Our beginner-friendly rug tufting classes are designed for anyone who wants to try something different — no previous tufting or craft experience needed.

Our rug tufting for beginners experience takes you through the whole process step by step. Start with an image you actually want to make — your pet, favourite character, artwork, logo, pattern or something completely personal. Choose from 50+ yarn colours, learn how to control a tufting gun, then build your rug from scratch as your design gradually takes shape.

Never used a tufting gun before? That’s exactly what this workshop is for. Our instructors will guide you from your first practice lines through to your own design, helping with technique and tricky areas whenever you need it.

With custom rug tufting, you’re not limited to everyone making the same thing. Your design, colours and finished rug are completely up to you.

Workshop Sizes & Duration:

40x40cm rug — approx. 2–2.5 hours --- Simple designs
50x50cm rug — approx. 2.5-3 hours --- Most Popular, More room for details

As beginners, we had to practice using the gun first, and then, after feeling a bit more confident, started working on our project. The class was fun and now I can’t wait to get my rug

They gave us time to practice but they weren’t guiding us properly, if we weren’t getting something right they would seem frustrated with us. So we just went on and tried to figure out to make the rugs ourselves. The whole time there the teacher was just on their phone during the class, so whenever we wanted to ask for help or a question we hesitated on talking to them. But my mates and I were happy with our own works

It’s a lot harder than you’d think (or at least it was for us!) but an enjoyable challenge. They have lots of coloured yarn to choose from and clean, central premises. Patient and informative teacher.

The tufting itself was pretty straightforward, the teacher explained how to use the equipment for about 10mins and then you were left to complete your design by yourself. They stay close by in case you need help (: I recommend you send a photo of the design you'd want to them a day before the class so they can draw it up for you on the day and it's ready to go. I enjoyed the experience and would go again but with a friend next time ️

The venue was easy to find. The studio got us set up and then we tufted our images. Can’t wait to see the finished result.

The teacher was lovely and reached out to us early to collect our images so we got ahead of time. The place was easy to find as its in the heart of the city. It took a while for us to get the hang of it but when we did it was great fun. There were lots of yarn shades to select and you can create whatever your mind can imagine. We went to grab a feed while our teacher finalised our rugs and we came back to our very own hand made piece. Would absolutely do this again!
