female Women-owned

Trashy is a start-up, female-owned and operated social enterprise based in Penrith, is dedicated to transforming the community’s perception of fashion ‘waste’ by advocating and supporting conscious consumerism and championing the value inherent in remnant and discarded textiles, haberdashery and other creative resources.
We are guided by the following principles:
1. Reduce the volume of valuable, reusable, textile and fashion 'waste' directed towards landfill and perpetual storage.
2. Advocate for and exemplify the principles of upcycling and reuse, underscoring its ecological and economic advantages.
3. Redefine common perceptions regarding the value of so-called fashion and textile 'waste'.
4. Advocate for and support women in business, and the circular economy.
One of our strategies in reducing textile and fashion waste is to empower the community to upcycle, reuse and create using rescued resources by offering a variety of hands-on, engaging workshops built around sustainability. Our workshops are led by experienced instructors who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills in upcycling, crafting, and sustainable practices.
Here are some of the workshops we offer:
* Basic book-binding/rebinding
* Bag making
* Shoe repair and upcycling
* Fabric flower making
* Make your own pencil case
* Reading dress pattern/designing patterns
We provide all the necessary materials and tools, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm and creativity.
Our workshops are perfect for those who love learning new skills, expressing their creativity, and positively impacting the planet. You can explore your creative potential, express yourself through hands-on projects, and connect with others in a fun and supportive environment.
If you are interested in booking a group for a specific workshop, or if you can't find a workshop you're interested in, please let us know. You are also welcome to run your own workshop at Trashy as long as your workshop is textile/fashion and/or sustainability-related.
