Watercolour and Gouache Workshop: Paint the Ocean

Master the foundational techniques for creating an expressive seascape scene.

3 hours Location Darlinghurst Class size 1 to 14 guests   $79 (Afterpay available)

Join us for a fun and relaxing ocean-themed painting workshop where you’ll learn to capture the beauty of the sea using watercolour and gouache. Guided by our experienced instructor, you’ll follow step-by-step demonstrations to explore techniques such as layering washes, building depth, and using vibrant gouache accents to bring movement and atmosphere to your seascape.
Next, you’ll put those techniques into practice as you create your very own ocean-inspired artwork. With professional-quality Winsor & Newton paints and Fabriano artist-grade paper, you’ll explore the interplay of colour, light, and texture while developing your own unique interpretation of the ocean.
Whether you’re inspired by crashing waves, gentle tides, or tranquil coastal views, you’ll leave with a finished piece that reflects the calm, energy, and ever-changing beauty of the sea.

  • 5/5 from William Penhale, attended Jun 2026: It was great as an introduction. Not overwhelming and enough techniques and time to explore water colours.
  • 3/5 from Jill Sawyer, attended Jun 2026: It would be great if these classes were rates i.e. beginner, intermediate and advanced. Enjoyed myself but would have preferred more structure/ step by step instructions. Felt it was a tricky artwork for a newbie. Teacher was lovely, I just would have liked more help.
  • 5/5 from Krista Jupp, attended May 2026: Fantastic, friendly, and helpful teacher! Clear instructions made this the perfect introduction to watercolors. It was a fun group and a great way to learn a new skill. The only limitations were the ones I placed on myself!
  • 5/5 from James Sherlock, attended May 2026: Was given this class as a gift and I really enjoyed it. The teacher was fantastic she clearly lead us through the steps and I didn’t feel rushed at all. Everything was supplied which made for a very relaxing time.
  • 5/5 from Alison Barry, attended May 2026: Great class! Zoe was really patient, as no one had much watercolour experience. She took the time to take us through the steps, and gave individual feedback. I thoroughly enjoyed!
  • 5/5 from Sharon Davies, attended May 2026: I did the Watercolour and gouache workshop painting the ocean scene. It was a lovely relaxing morning. Our tutor was very helpful as she demonstrated, explained the process and answered our questions. We had practice time before working on our painting and she has sent us notes and the template so we can practice at home too. I would highly recommend this class.
  • 5/5 from Louise Rogers, attended Dec 2025: Because the class was small, we all got individual attention. The teacher was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, with great tips and tricks to enhance our paintings. She gave plenty of encouragement and praise to each person. Thank you for a fun learning experience.
  • 5/5 from Diana Allman, attended Dec 2025: Indra is a brilliant art mentor. I learned a lot in the class and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop experience.
  • 5/5 from Karen French, attended Dec 2025: Indra’s classes are relaxed, very enjoyable and a warm atmosphere for exploring and learning
