What you'll do

In this four hour watercolour workshop, we’ll dive into the beauty of the ocean and its fascinating creatures like octopuses and fish. This class is perfect for beginners, providing a relaxed and inspiring environment to explore watercolour techniques while creating vibrant and calming ocean-themed artworks.

You’ll start by learning basic watercolour techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and how to layer colours to create the fluidity of water. You will also gain insights into shading and texture techniques to bring the life and movement of marine creatures to your artwork.

By the end of the session, you’ll have created a beautiful ocean-inspired watercolour piece and learned techniques that can be applied to many other subjects. Most importantly, you’ll have fun and leave with a sense of accomplishment!

Introduction to watercolour techniques (wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, gradients)
Sketching basic ocean creatures (fish, octopus, seaweed)
Applying colours and creating depth through layering
Exploring textures for water, scales, and sea creatures
Final project: Painting an octopus or fish with ocean background

Watercolour paint palette with at least these colours (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, white)
Set of watercolour brushes size 2, 4, 6
A pad of watercolour paper- medium cold press 300 gsm
Synthetic liner for finer details
Watercolour palette – preferably with large flat mixing areas
Low adhesiveness masking tape
Waterproof fine liner: Sakura Pigma Micron Black pen size 03 $6.75
Tea towel or paper towel
Empty jar / container to wash brushes
Hair dryer (optional) to dry paint quicker
